If you analysed what the pitfalls are in any food you eat ..... You wouldn't eat.

Everything in moderation is my philosophy (am almost a veggie, i do like fish).

As for me, like most homo sapiens I am an omnivore - like Liz if I had to kill an animal (not sure I could), I'd have to be very hungry to eat it - but I like farmed beef, pork and lamb, chicken, as well as veg and fruit. However I try to do my bit to encourage animal welfare and care of the enironment, free range eggs, and chicken, and pork where possible - and organic fruit and veg.

Where would I draw the line, in the main animals that are kept as pets, most wild creatures or taken from the wild - and that includes game.

He didn't say he ate it, only that he liked it! I would say that someone who ate 95% vegetables was almost a veggie.
There's no moral 'high ground' in being vegetarian, it is a matter of preference.... :D :D

    Taken from www.dictionary.com

    veg·e·tar·i·an ( P ) Pronunciation Key (vj-t¢r-n)
    n.
    1. One who practices vegetarianism.
    2. A herbivore.

    adj.
    1. Of or relating to vegetarianism or vegetarians.
    2. Consisting primarily or wholly of vegetables and vegetable products: a vegetarian diet.

    al·most ( P ) Pronunciation Key (´lmst, ´l-mst)
    adv.

Slightly short of; not quite; nearly: almost time to go; was almost asleep; had almost finished.

I stand by what I said above, 'almost' a vegetarian, as in, not quite there and consisting 'primarily' of vegetables. ;)

Come on, Lisa, there's a whole host of different types of veggies! I was one for years, belonged to the Vegetarian Society and read about it in depth. It's all a matter of taste, attitude and opinion.

Some people choose not to eat red meat, others will eat nothing "with a face" and yet others not eat any form of dairy produce including eggs. Just depends why you're veggie in the first place.

Personally, I made my decision when I was on the Orient Express (boast, boast!!) and they had poached lobster on the menu. I'd never eaten it before as I didn't like the idea of them being boiled alive. When I looked down the carriage and saw all those 'posh' people each scoffing a whole lobster, it made me feel extremely sick.

I eat meat now but I'd never eat lobster again.

Being a vegan is a whole different ball game!

You could be classed as "almost a vegetarian" though, not quite but almost. [IMG]

You can be classified as an 'almost vegetarian'! The world is not black and white; as Nathan said, everything in moderation. Extremism is the bane of the modern world.
Sometime ago I listened to a talk by the Dalai Llama. His opinion was that although most of us should eat less meat on health grounds, a bit of fried bacon now and again was delicious! I don't believe that eating meat is wrong. I do believe that anyone who eats meat or fish has a duty to the creature it comes from to try to ensure that it has a happy, healthy life, and a gentle death.

Can of worms??? - delicious - pass the salt and pepper!

Seriously, us 'almost vegetarians' are perhaps a bit more thoughtful about what we eat than some?

It seems one thing that puts people off being vegetarian/vegan is the pedantry remarks made by anti-meateaters?

Good God, [excuse idolatry] I had no idea the chinese ate worms-uurrghh!
It was actually supposed to be a satirical comment about intolerance and bigotry, but I'm afraid it fell on deaf ears!
I know that there is a great deal of cruelty in the world today, Lisa. Most of us do, and in as much depth as you. I said we have a duty of care: as yet it is not always exercised, but that does not make it any less true, nor does it make eating meat wrong.
Try to be more accepting of others' points of view- because you hold a view strongly does not make it right. ;)
