There's a lot of people this side of the "unseen" border, WT, that agree with you, including me.
Actually, the Stockmarkets and the Oil Companies did see the drop coming over two years ago. Shell and BP made warnings back in 2012 in the midst of the recession that the high price of oil could not be sustained. They also said that OPEC would not lower production because it felt threaten by other oil producing countries. SNP though, had to turn a blind eye to the warnings as the forecast in the drop of oil prices would, and did, make nonsense of their manifesto.

pete. the way we elect a government is completely out dated and we are in really bad need of using the proportional representation system or one of the AV systems put forward. you are right in saying that the party with less votes can become the government, this happened last election and is why we have a con/dem government at the min

Yes they were :blue thumb:. Even I said it three years ago and, on our thread about Scottish Independence I also said they can't rely on the income from the North Sea to prop up Independence.

It was pretty obvious it would happen when the U.S. started intensive shale oil fracking. It has reduced their need for imported oil by a considerable amount and OPEC had to drop their prices to try and keep their share of the market. This has reached a low but will continue to yoyo for some time.

North sea oil is likely to continue to be a reducing income generator if we start fracking here in the UK - which I think is pretty likely. With all the unrest in the Middle East, Russia and Venezuela the reliance on imports is a problem that all political parties are having to address.

I think that the system of government needs an overhaul. All those people elected should have to wear a special necklace (non-removable) that contains a small explosive. In this age of hi-tech communications we can all have a special number to phone that will check who's calling and ask for a secure password. If a high enough percentage of people call the number for an individual politician, and show their displeasure in the politician's performance, the explosive device goes off!

That should ensure we get honest politicians (an oxymoron at the moment :heehee:) who really want to work to make things better. Obviously the system would need to be refined fairly well. If you haven't voted in the elections you can't be involved in the phone call disapproval.

I'm sure @pete would like that system. :snork:

I totally agree with you. I have friends who live in Stonehaven which is a sort of suburb of Aberdeen and work for Schlumberger who are 100% allied to the oil and gas industry. They knew about 18 months prior to the crash that it was imminent and put off having a house extension built due to job uncertainty. Am I meant to believe Alex and his sidekick Nichola didn't also know if little miss me did?

After The Referendum and the bottom fell out of the oil market I heard John Swinney I think it was, waxing lyrical that the oil price was pretty well irrelevent to the success of an Independant Scotland. I almost swallowed my tongue in disbelief as for the previous 5 years we'd heard nothing but how incredibly rich Scotland was due to our oil and gas (gas reserves which are down to the preverbial peep! so I'm reliably informed).

I can see Scotland having multi flaming referendums a la Canada until the SNP get the vote they want. They bang on about being so democratic...to the 55% who voted NO or just to those who agree with them?

 I don't see a hung parliament as a bad thing,it prevents things from becoming to radical or it has done over the last five years.
In the real world it won't make MUCH difference who gets in,the same old civil servants will oversee moderation.

Well that's what I have assumed up until now.
We now have lots of votes going to UKIP,Greens,Snp. Etc.
To stem immigration we would have to leave Europe..........so we make the rules.
I don't think we should break away as such.............these are difficult times.

If you read the Daily mail or the Sun you can only see a Conservative landslide................but of course not everybody reads these rags.

Regardless of personal views and political dogma from mp`s the UK will split up. UK national debt is £1.5 Trillion pounds going up by £90 Billion a year.
When interest rates rise back to normal say 5% ish that will be circa £90 Billion a year interest payments in 2018.
When the UK defaults we may all need to be growing vegetables in our gardens just to get by

I was under the impression that the conservatives won the election last time round, regarding seats they held.
Then went on to join the Lib/Dems, ( who lets face it will join any one in order to get a bit of power).
As to how many votes each party gets, I'd not like to say, as I dont think in the system we have now, makes much difference.

Personally I'd prefer a system where by we get a second vote once all non serious morons have been eliminated.
