That's because he is basing it on facts. I already posted that new car registrations in the private sector had nosedived, the gulf between sales between private and fleet has never been so wide.

I seen the article by Akio Toyoda, where he predicts that EV's will only ever have about 30% of the market share.
Stellantis has announced a slow down of operations at its Mirafiori plant in Turin, this month and next in response to weak market demand for its fully-electric Fiat 500e. From the 12th Feb some 2,250 workers are expected to be on furlough every week as the company has announced one 8hr daily shift of operations instead of two 8hr daily shifts, the furlough period is expected to last till the end of March. If sales do not improve over the coming weeks/months, Stellantis has the option to totally stop production at the Turin factory.

Maybe... just maybe, using punitive taxation and enforcing mandatory measures isn't the best way to demonstrate to folks that something is as good an idea as you want them to think it is?

Its amazing what you can find out about yourself with a quick google.

Apparently I've always been "recalcitrant" and didn't know it.

Three letter acronyms can mean anything you wish. That's why they are a load of rubbish most of the time.

So you think it is perfectly acceptable to ride roughshod over the views of those who are reluctant/reactionary/recalcitrant? Would that not be wholly undemocratic and in fact dictatorial?

It was intimated within your question, whether intentional or not.

Nothing, is the answer. Regardless of what situation we are looking at, if a product or service is good enough and the features/benefits are significant enough, then consumers will latch on to it and it will take off. Take smartphones as an example - when the idea of those were first dangled, it was only really gadget geeks that were excited about it... the idea proved itself and advanced quite rapidly and now the people that don't have one are in the minority.

The problem we have specific to EV's and indeed motoring overall, is that it is currently all stick and no carrot. The public are not stupid and they can see this - they can see the diesel boom barely in the rear view mirror and are looking at EV's and thinking that we are about to get hammered again... and all the while, local authorities are hammering us in other ways.

Apparently, the claim is that it is to prevent people selling cars that need a lot of work... however, a lot of classic cars are sold in need of restoration as part of estate sales following someone passing away - so if the owner is deceased, what happens there? Also, insurers have already started down this vein, by writing off cars that could be repaired, regardless of the value of the claim and they state they cannot sell the car back to the owner for them to repair it themselves because of emissions regulations. I know someone who had this very thing and in the end they got the third party to pay direct for the repairs to avoid there being an insurance claim.

I'm getting fed up with regulations and restrictions, all in the name of climate change, its just ridiculous that this is happening.

I can see people emigrating to Russia in the future. I think you will soon find its freer there as long as you dont criticise he government.

If it's road worthy, or made so, they should not be able to interfere.
