I suspect that is all about a possible bird flu pandemic, so they can force a cull on owners.

Pretty awful though regarding how much regulation they want to dump on us these days.

It's overkill, literally. We don't have to register our chooks but are required to keep them under cover where possible in times of bird flu and have wires stretched across the top of their pen to prevent migratory birds from landing.

In actual fact, when it's raining we let them in the polytunnel and we rarely confine them to their pen as they like having the run of the whole veg plot and, when it's fine, we have two cats plus us pottering about so don't get migrant fowl. They head for the wild ponds, marshes and open arable fields and pastures all around us.

Ah, but if you want to frighten people into accepting mandatory vaccine progs and passports, implying their pet chicken is some sort of lethal bio-weapon serves a purpose.

It's to do with control, not health ... or even absolute risk (as opposed to relative risk) to health.

I did find it funny that the usual British way of protesting came to the fore on the first day, and the website got broken by people registering their Tesco roast chickens...

It's also about some little jobsworth making work and rules to justify their existence @ViewAhead

If I had a few chickens they certainly wouldn't be registered.
As far as I'm concerned it got nothing to do with the government.
There are wild birds dropping from the sky with bird flu, (sad), at certain times of the year, how registering a few chickens in someones back yard can have any affect on that is just a mystery.

It can't have an effect ... but that won't stop the gov saying it is a necessary step to keep everyone safe, yada, yada. We are familiar with the routine now.

There are lots of "free range" chicken farms around here and elsewhere in the Vendée. Some argue that chooks kept in private gardens as pets or for eggs can pass on bird flu. Sprurious at best as the nearest to me are 20kms away.

I certainly won't be registering mine just to let some jobsworth decide they have to be culled.

                            Hi,

EV's are a rosy apple with a rotten core.

Buy an EV today and have one of these in a few years limping home on a motorway at 10 mph or less.

The whole thing is nothing but a scam - at best, it shows just how bad mathematics has become over the years.

That's for sure, @Fat Controller. When Gordon Brown, a man with an understanding of numbers, whilst Chancellor of the Exchequer started talking about mathematically impossible percentages above 100, I realised all was lost where the nation's numeracy is concerned.
