I'm not as convinced as you about the power companies being accurate. I have a number of instances where my bills are obviously incorrect e.g. they charged me three days in succession for the same monthly bill and another time my online account said I had over £7,000 in it. For some reason they didn't seem keen on sending me a cheque for it when I asked for it :heehee:. It then mysteriously disappeared from my online account and when I challenged them about it they denied it had ever happened. They had to backtrack on that when I sent them a screenshot that I had saved.

A lot of people don't check their bills so I am sure there are many inaccuracies not recorded.

Although I have no direct knowledge of them giving lower charges at certain times I would guess that those times where it could be advantageous are not that frequent or convenient.

I have friends who have been offered these very short term cheap rates (none have been paid to use energy) and they say the advantage is minimal as the timings are also when they don't particularly wish to use extra power.

I have also been offered reduced cost times but none of them have been at convenient times - although they may be convenient to others.

Also, I'm old enough to remember back to the three day week and the chaos caused by there being various ways of coping with it but in an extremely disorganised way. I don't have a great deal of faith in governments and large organisations managing these situations efficiently.

There is a problem with trying to use off peak electricity for power hungry jobs such as washing machines, dish washers and tumble dryers. The advice is not to leave these devices unattended. Do people have to change their sleeping patterns in order to make use of cheaper electricity?

Yes - that does seem to be an international scarcity!
