Luckily for all of us I didn't make a YouTube video of my unproblematic journey from Devon to West Cork and back using the public charging infrastructure and an older low battery capacity BEV!

I have to admit I rarely watch fully any videos that are put up on here, it has to be something I'm really interested in for me see it right through.
Any thing under 5 min is about my attention span.

When I was up in the West End the other month I saw something that made me laugh. By the roadside parking bays there were the usual parking meters but they had been enhanced by having car charger plug ins (or whatever they are called). The cause of the laugh was that each one had two charging points :rolleyespink:. I'm still trying to work out how you can fit two cars into a parking bay for one vehicle  :heehee:.

        Unfortunately I couldn't take a photo as I don't have a mobile phone. :noidea:

Maybe because one of them will inevitably be malfunctioning half the time @shiney ....

I wonder if they were different companies chargers.
I kind of get the feeling you can't just use any old charger you find hanging around.

They were each a single unit with two outlets.

There were chargers installed on the street near my work and initially, they were giving free charging (presumably because the council hadn't yet set that bit up) so those parking bays always had an EV in them charging. As soon as the council starting asking for money for the electricity.. those bays were empty.

Possibly because in the early years of EVs, and the push for their use, suggestions were made that charging points could/would be fitted to existing street light posts. I don't think that was ever an option which would be taken up. A recent programme extolling the virtues of EVs showed channels dug across pavements, with detachable covers, outside houses so the cable could be run out without creating a trip hazard. I've read also that some councils have refused permission even for something like that to be done. Those without the luxury of off road parking will be well and truly screwed once forced to drive EVs.

Chargers on lamposts is a non starter, we have 4 lamposts in my street, they are just too far apart and can you imagine the mad scramble to get parked on one overnight.
I doubt the cabling for streetlights is up to running chargers.

I can only assume that any street charging points will be for anyone's use and not just the person who lives in the house next to it, so its going to cost more to use.

Mathematics isn't a strong point when it comes to the green revolution, especially when it comes to what needs to be done to increase the capacity of the grid.

Your lucky we don't have any nor pavements but we do have off road parking (we must be rich) but because of all the poo about they may be a slip hazard, this is a good day  outside of house, how do EV's like poo does it corrode the battery's and then they is the flooding

That is actually a really good point - I suspect that EV's would cope better with flooding in many ways than ICE cars, not least the point of water being ingested into a combustion engine being a fairly common and catastrophic thing... but, how would the wiring and connectors cope with farm and rural environments, particularly given the amount of animal urine that can by sloshing around (urine is really corrosive!)
