With a DC charger, the cable is always locked to the car whilst charging - unplugging something running at sometimes over 100kW could have rather interesting consequences!

But if it is not charging, the cable is fixed to the charger, and the cable connector to the car is unlocked.

He was always a pillock and completely dominated by his brother. How he ended up in office boggles the mind.

What is worse, is that there is an allegation that his brother stands to profit out of these net zero plans - - that one definitely needs finding out for sure.

So they make a charger that locks on to the tether only until the vehicle is fully charged or the owner stops the "meter" through cutting off his credit card access. Something along those lines ?

I honestly don’t think smart tech running our lives and dictating what we can and can’t do and when is any form of utopia.

I expect here and other western countries we'll realise, too late, that we're over consuming energy and then being stuck on ideas for more generation or the ability to reduce our consumption.
Countries like India, china, Russia, will have a similar issue but simply throw up any form of power station and damn the environment or objections.

Well, we know that this is not true for China - I think there are links further back in the thread, or a simple search will, for example, tell us this: MSN
I'm curious about India and Russia - what have you found out?

My understanding is that energy consumption in the UK was forecast, decades ago, to continue rising, but has since been found to be continually falling or is rising but not as fast as expected?, because of leaps forward in efficiency in many aspects of energy use...

So, yes, with a (DC) Rapid charger, the cable is permanently tethered to the charger.
The driver plugs the other end of the cable into the car and initiates a charge - it locks on and stays locked until the charging stops - The charging stops usually because the driver stops the charge, or if not, then when the car battery reaches 100% charge.

The construction industry states, we can't build 1.5m homes without an energy infrastructure rethink. To meet these targets of net zero set out by the government, we urgently need to expand the capacity of the national grid so that it is able to match this demand.

I went to Lincoln yesterday morning to pick up my daughter and stopped at Ferrybridge services for a toilet stop and to give her a ring that I was an hour away. The cars that were using the EV chargers at the services all were doing the same, making sure they weren't sharing a charging point. In contrast, I entered out local fuel station at 6.05am, filled up with derv, paid and received my receipt at 6.14am. I put in 65.76L of derv which increased my range by 634 miles. Now if I had an EV had no access of charging at home, how long would I be sitting at a charging point to add that mileage? I did 484 miles yesterday, stopping off at York designer outlet on the way back, finding a parking space there was impossible let alone parking at a charging point to charge at point of destination.

Yes, it's a shame that the construction industry has ended up in a position where it (by and large) isn't producing homes which use little or no energy.

Yes - we are in a transitional process, where we've not yet sorted out enough destination chargers, for example, and though the rapid charging network has massively improved in the last couple of years, more work is needed.
Personally I've never needed to drive 634 miles without stopping, so it's not a question I can imagine needing to answer...

You're possibly not thinking ahead. The overwhelming move is towards electrification and battery powered cars and 'stuff'. The UK is steadily reducing its ability to create energy and is more reliant on imports, especially Norway. Norway have decided they want to be energy independent so all it takes is a minor political shift and they might decide to not export as much.

So much for the drive to be self sufficient with energy.
Personally I don't think this country, whatever we do, will ever be self sufficient.

Again if batteries do become a useful thing in the future I doubt any country will want to export power, I assume we only get their excess which they can't store.
