Its the world price that went up, its just plain profiteering out of a crisis/war.

The big oil companies have a long history of manipulating public opinion. They pay very clever people a lot of money to do so. It's not even difficult. Take some science backed facts, cherry pick the bits that support your point, and push it out as a scientific paper.

For example, we know that lithium extraction is bad. But we also know that scientists and engineers are working very hard, and making lots of progress towards, alternative battery technologies that once ready, will be far less environmentally damaging than lithium. So what goes in the report? Do they report lots of technologies that are close to being market ready? Or do they focus on the environmental impact of lithium extraction?

In other news, there was a study released recently showing that the amount of money recently spent on an unproven carbon capture and storage project would have paid for 900,000 homes to be insulated, with the estimated co2 reduction being greater than expected from the unproven carbon capture project. So why was the money spent on unproven technology rather than the proven advantage of reducing household energy demands?

If the major oil companies were run by young people with a lot of time left to build up their pension pots, I suspect they'd invest a lot in renewables and emerging technologies. But if there's only a few years left til you retire, and your pension pot value is directly linked to the share price, it makes sense to just milk it as long as possible.

Oil companies voting for electric cars is like turkeys voting for Christmas its not something you do.

Surely every advert you see on TV is about manipulating public option.

Toyota and Yamaha have jointly developed a V8 hydrogen-burning internal combustion engine.

I see people in the UK who had put down a deposit for a new Tesla model S or model X have now been informed their order has been cancelled. If they wish to go ahead, it will now only be available in left hand drive, not that I could ever afford in the first place. Those who wish to cancel, can do so and have been offered a £2000 discount off Tesla's other right hand drive models.

As long as the new owner lets you plug your car in you will be okay.

I suppose it's not much more than a "proper" car for that kind of performance, just wondering if it actually makes a noise like a milk float.

I prefer a quiet EV over the sound of an old diesel any day.

In other news, bicycles will get mandatory sound emitters. Under the new BSE (bicycles safety agreement) law, your mobile phone detects when you ride it and will emit at least 70dB worth of engine sounds (V8 sound can be added for £1,99 per month) to ensure the safety of pedestrians
The association of sleep therapists has already applauded this decision

I did hear once that most of the noise that you get from motorways is from the tyres.
Why cant they just put sensors on them so that when they get anywhere near a pedestrian they make a loud Klaxon type noise that makes the pedestrian jump out the way.

My dad is losing his vision. He hates electric cars. Well that's not true, he likes the idea, but he finds it scary trying to cross a road as he increasingly relies on his hearing to double check if his failing eyes have missed anything.

You could argue that a push bike is quieter still, but they generally move a lot slower giving him more time to spot them. An almost silent vehicle doing 30 mph is a serious hazard if your eyes on failing. He was advised to carry a white cane. Not because he's completely blind as he can still see enough to navigate, but to warn road users that he might not have seen them coming in the hope they do the right thing and slow down or at least be ready to brake if my dad steps out in front of them.

With our bitter winters, it's not a big seller out west (zone 3 and lower) and anywhere in my province outside of urban centers. The cold drains the battery quickly and then if you turn on the heater, you won't get far.

I had a giggle yesterday. I was trying to get around a Tesla sedan as it was doing at least 10MPH under the speed limit - and I noticed it had a trailer hitch :heehee: Can you imagine the power drain of hauling a trailer of any kind?
