Well without wanting to start an argument  IMO you can blame the education system in this country.

Why is it that if someone doesn't go to university they are a failure in many people's eyes.
Not enough people steered into proper jobs that fit their ability, over education is crippling the country and not turning out geniuses.

Which is why we have to go abroad for half our labour force, home grown people are just too educated to do certain jobs.

I was speaking to the farm manger where I used to work a few years ago about the solar panels being installed at a nearby farm.
He was told it was something that could easily removed and the land going back to a farm at a later date.

He said after seeing the amount of concrete that was being pumped into the whole site he doubted very much that the land could be used for anything other than building.
A Greenfield site being turned into a brown field site by the backdoor.

No, not free but we are always being told about cheap green energy, all the time they link the price to gas it will just be a money tree for the energy companies. Remember cheap north sea gas? That never materialised either. :roflol:
They are talking about starting to build more onshore wind farms, who will get them is a lottery, but nearly every MP in the country will oppose them.

Not any longer. Ford are stopping production of the Fiesta and the Puma will take it's place as their smallest car.

Also the Focus is to be discontinued. Then you have the likes of the VW Group that will no longer be making the UP and Polo. New ICE cars will be more expensive from 2025 when new stringent emission legislations come in to force with the new Euro7 engine. This will be the death of the small hatchbacks and SUV'S will soon be the norm.

When you do some research, statistically the 18-23 age group are the least likely to have ownership of a car. In fact, weekly expenditure on a car is at the least when your younger due to starting a family, mortgage etc etc, this is when second hand cars are more popular. From the age group 50+ the weekly expenditure on a car increases, also this age group are more likely to purchase new cars than second hand.

Bearing all this in mind and that 24.4% of the UK population is in the 60+ age group. To have less cars on the road or to cut down on consumers trading new cars in every 3 years, then who should be leading by example. Less cars on the roads might not be to bad, but looking at the stats, who would the government target should they try and enforce it. We are living longer and due to the baby boom years we have a higher proportion of people who have now become dependent of a car. I just can't support anything when they use force, I always believe there can be a compromise.

I didn't know the Focus was going too and I won't miss the VW's. Not a make of car I've ever liked along with Citreons.

That's understandable. Insurance for youngsters is extortionate.

I'm surprised at that, insurance for one becomes cheaper at 50+ and gradually decreases as age increases. I'm now in my late 60's and although my car isn't used as much as it was, I couldn't be without one where I live (rurally) as buses are virtually non existent.

Oddly enough, Ford are one of the manufacturers that I think are in a bit of trouble when it comes to electric and future product lines... it really seems to have lost its way at the moment sadly.

Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Jeep and quite a few others all fall under the Stellantis family now and even have a link up with Toyota, so they can all share technology, parts and platforms.

Similarly there is Nissan, Renault and Mercedes Benz (Daimler Chrysler) that are all linked; VW has the Audi/Skoda/Seat/Porsche links to share tech with.

Ford just seem to be out there swimming on their own a bit and not really knowing what the public are wanting, which is a real shame as at one time they could seemingly do no wrong. There is rumours of a tie up with Tesla in the US, but how much of a tie up that is remains to be seen.

Well have you seen the new electric Ford Mustang, they should have dropped the name and moved on.
It just looks so ordinary I think its lost its image.
The Ford Crab or Donkey, or ferret comes to mind.

Exactly my point - the new Capri is just another generic SUV style hatchback - - not the sporty coupé that the name evokes.
It feels to me that the brand absolutely hasn't a clue what folks want so are knocking generic stuff out and hoping that by the marketing team slapping a known name on it, that folks will buy it.

If I had to name a brand ripe to take a beating or be ripe for a merger, sadly it is Ford in my opinon.

They are all so shapeless FC. In fact Toyota's seem to be the only EV's that have anything distinctive about them, looks wise.

What they were saying and my wording did not help. the 50+ age group tend to spend a higher percentage of disposable income on purchasing and financing a car than those younger.

I didn't know they were flogging the Capri badge again, it does look awful.
I always wanted a V8 and I love the sound of those big American engines, you can stuff the whine of a Ferrari IMO.

I think the sheer size and weight of the battery packs is perhaps playing into that to some degree, but I agree there isn't a lot of unique features about now. From a consumer's point of view, or at least from my very recent experience, you end up very much with a feeling of "can't beat them so I may as well join them" sort of thing; I have gone into an SUV, primarily because they are easier for me to get out of (the Jag was fine to get IN, but not out...) but also because there are so many of them on the road now that you cannot see past them at junctions etc if you are in a low-slung car.

Agreed - give me the burble of a good V8 any day; I am still partial to a straight-six too mind.
