There are certainly very few bargains to be had in used cars at the moment. Ironically, I was offered one (an early classic at 22 years old, in A1 condition) for £1000 last night and it is the first bargain I have seen. I was gutted I couldn't afford it as I reckon it's value is only going one way before too long. That one is located outside London, but if it was inside London it would be one of those that would be heading to the scrapper. Just plain wrong.

Diesels will be first - petrols will be some way behind. Pay per mile is the way they want to push it though, so no matter what you are driving you will get hit.

It really doesn't help when that misinformation is coming from those in government though, does it?

What annoys me is we pay all kinds of taxes to drive, and now they are inventing more.
Maybe if some of it was actually spent on maintaining the roads it would be slightly acceptable but not much of it does.
Yes but you can bet electric cars will be last to be included.

I am an advocate of pay per mile. Let those that use the roads the most, pay the most. EV or otherwise.

But we already do that via fuel tax, it's only EV drivers that are getting away with it.
By the time all us with less money are able to buy a second hand worn out piece of junk ,with a worn out battery, all those advantages will have been eroded.

I'm not against the principle of those who use most pay most, however that most or less exists today with fuel duty and the applied VAT thereon. I am, however, against the big brother way that it is being implemented and what may well follow... indeed, this ANPR world where they have even saw fit to already put up ULEZ cameras in suburban cul-de-sacs is to many a step too far toward having our freedom curbed at the whim of those who seek to control us. Of course, this would be denied, but do you really trust any government??

So is it all sorted now?
            By the end of 2022?

Also first paragraph suggests pricing to force us off the road.

I think I may decide to be a devout wibbler :love30:. Nothing we do or say makes the slightest difference to the government so I might as well enjoy myself.

            Oh no I don't! :heehee:

Is it in English that me or anyone who is not a lawyer is likely to understand.
Or is it just more waffle.

              I prefer wibble to waffle.;)

I remember when King Bill the Third brought in the Window Tax and think they should do so again. We could bring it in for car windows . It wasn't too popular then so it only lasted 155 years. That's about how long it takes for those in charge to realise their mistakes and correct them. :loll:

"In addition to generating taxation to fund essential public services, motoring taxation plays a key role in managing congestion by regulating demand to use public roads. If the Government fail radically to reform motoring taxation, the UK faces an under-resourced and congested future."
If that part doesn't mean forcing people off the road by monetary means then I'm confused, the only reason the roads are congested is because they spend as little as possible on them. Just locally we have needed a link to the M20 from all the industrial units they have allowed to be built on farms, and 25yrs on its still not being funded, so traffic, including artics have to come almost into town and down residential roads to get to the M20. Not to mention thousand of houses being built in that area and all using the same residential road to reach a motorway.
But they still want us to pay to use these roads that get no modernisation, in some countries there would be riots.

I think there should also be a charge on the cubic capacity of a vehicle and I don't mean the engine size. I think there should be a surcharge on SUVs and Chelsea tractors.

Because they are too big, take up too much space on the road and choke up car parks. I take it you have one.
