I do now, yes - had a saloon before. Is it width, or length that you have an issue with?

Just the overall size. I find them intimidating and many of the people who drive them know that and try to use that to their advantage in busy traffic.

Did someone actually get paid for coming up with this kind of stuff.

Its pretty basic stuff that most people
      realise.

I get looked down on fairly often in my Focus..

But do they have more room or are they just higher, and like to look down on others.
I think there is this "thing" often with Mothers taking the kids to school, or other places, that because I'm higher than you I'm safe.

Interesting, because in reality the only dimension they really differ in is height. I moved to the SUV simply because, being disabled, it was very easy to get into the saloon.. but not so easy to get out of it, especially as I have to get out with a walking stick.

I've got a Volvo XC60 which is 4688mm long, 2117mm wide (including mirrors) and 1658mm high (to tip of aerial); for comparison, the V60 estate on the same platform is 4761mm length, 2040mm wide (including mirrors) and 1432mm high - - so in terms of footprint on the road, the SUV is shorter by 73mm and wider by 77mm... (so about 3 inches in either direction); I think the "BMW/Audi effect" might have a lot to do with how SUV's are perceived if I am honest, as a lot of them are now driven by the same folks that used to be bombing about in 3-Series or A4's... so it is perhaps not the cars, but the drivers that is the problem?

The interior packaging is quite clever on them (make/model dependant of course) - we took a king size mattress to the dump in ours last week, and I don't think I have ever owned a hatch or estate that could do that.

"The situation is urgent. The arm’s-length body should be tasked with recommending an alternative road charging mechanism to replace fuel duty and vehicle excise duty by the end of 2022. One of those options should be a road pricing mechanism that uses telematic technology to charge drivers according to distance driven, factoring in vehicle type and congestion. If motoring taxation is linked to road usage, the Committee has not seen a viable alternative to a road pricing system (based on telematics)".

Is this the bit you mean?

Kind of says it all. The end of 2022.
Nothing will change apart from the fact it will cost us more, they will do what they want to do whatever colour gets in and we will pay through the nose for the privilege of driving down the street you live in.
I really dont want cameras tracking my every move, even the neighbours spy on me via a ring doorbell.
The world has gone crazy and I'm not sure its one I want to live in much longer.

"The Government must act now on this agenda. The taxes imposed by fuel duty and vehicle excise duty are increasingly duplicated by local schemes that charge motorists for entering congestion zones and clean air zones. The growing patchwork of devolved schemes may make it impossible to deliver a national road pricing scheme, because the simultaneous operation of local and national road pricing schemes would create confusion and unfair double taxation."

              Is this the bit?
If so, they are ignoring it.
Since when has unfair taxation ever bothered a government.

Without a doubt. And the drivers of Range Rovers are even worse than the BMW/Audi brigade. They may be desperate to get to their destination quickly before it breaks down. I can understand why you would choose an SUV for access issues. When I had my Volvo S40 I almost had to roll myself onto the pavement to get out. My Fabia seats are firm and relatively high so it is not so bad but when I was driving the FIAT Ducato I found it brilliant for getting in and out. Which unfortunately I was doing all day long!

That is why so many women have problems parking their cars. For years men have been telling them that 4" is 8".

                  Hi,

Save all the bother and get rid of electric vehicles now; we have a Skoda Yeti diesel which is brilliant and we're not apologizing for it after all our government wanted us in diesel vehicles which is conveniently forgotten.

Yeti less polluting the atmosphere and saving the planet now it's seven years old. Stop leasing and start buying again but keep the vehicle longer?

                  Kind regards, Colin.

                  Hi,

Stranger things have happened Drahcir; yes hopefully our Yeti will see us through. Did anyone expect the government to treat diesel car owners like criminals. Alternative fuels are also being researched which could once again change things.

                  I'll wait and see.

                  Kind regards, Colin.
