The Great Western Mainline is now electrified as far as Cardiff. There appear to be no plans to electrify Bristol to Exeter or the Exeter London mainline route via Taunton, Castle Cary and Westbury. Don't mention Plymouth and further west.

      Hi

      Hi,

Wind turbine on car roof; generates its own wind whilst the car is moving; just plan the route avoiding low bridges.

      Kind regards, Colin.

I saw an old RT-type 1950's bus yesterday and it was painted green

I was wondering whether it would be old enough to avoid the ULEZ charge because, of course, it can't be polluting if it is old.

          Hi,

You can't get much greener than that shiney.

I hope to be polluting the atmosphere shortly; I'm restoring a vintage petrol Howard Bulldog rotavator. Every time I visit my garden huts I love the smell of oil & petrol; if I could bottle it I could make a fortune selling it to EV owners.

          Kind regards, Colin.

It would surely be exempt as it is old enough to be classed historic (over 40).. perhaps we should lobby to have the ULEZ tax changed to be on people rather than vehicles on the same basis?? All of us over 40's are exempt and the under 40's pay?

              Hi,

A few years ago our UK government declared diesel cars were best; millions of diesel cars were sold many replacing perfectly good petrol cars people wanting to do the right thing?

Having got so many into diesel cars how much money did the government put into its coffers at the rate of 20% on each new diesel car sold.

Now diesel cars are bad for the environment the government having milked diesel cars for all they could get.

Fast forward to our government now pushing electric cars where once again people want to do the right thing; it's currently in full swing with people once again getting rid of their perfectly good car spending a great deal of money upgrading to electric car. Here we are again the government cashing in adding 20% from each new electric car sold into its coffers.

The way things are heading give it another ten years when the government have got as many electric cars on the road as possible and another fuel source is available it will all start over again.

I'm not at all bothered about the climate; extremes of climate have been happening for millions of years without our help; the government are using climate change to boost its coffers because the government are now facing a huge problem with heavy industry being in places like China & India totally ignoring climate change but ensuring plenty of jobs whereas we in the UK can only open more fast food outlets. I don't trust our UK government at all to the point I no longer vote they aren't worth crossing the road for and all parties are equally bad.

Electric cars make little difference apart from being another tax. I wonder how many are trading in for an electric car just to show off they are in deep debt?

Things are now so bad the local main dealership whom have looked after our cars for the last nine years are so desperate for funds at the car MOT/service in July stated the car front brake pads & discs were 75% worn needing replacement; our car has only covered 32,000 miles in seven years averaging 4,500 miles per year; I've just done the brake job myself; new discs are 22mm thick and require replacing at 18mm thick; the discs now removed measure 21mm. The discs removed would last at our annual mileage over ten years; the pads have 6mm lining on them good for many more years.

I politely emailed the main dealer explaining what I found telling them we won't be using them in future. I've not been angry or fallen out but exercised my option of dealing elsewhere; for next year I've got an independent lined up this independent having top class reviews being in business at the same location for twenty years.

              Kind regards, Colin.

I noticed petrol is back up to 1.60 a ltr.
I don't foresee it ever coming down again, if it does stabilise for any length of time I think the tax on it will be raised and raised, in the push to get us all to move to electric.

I got petrol at Sainsbury's yesterday at £1.54 and got another 4p per litre off with a voucher. :noidea:

Yet today, I read in the news that Stellantis have come out saying that they are anticipating petrol and diesel cars to still be commonly on the roads until 2050...

May well be the case but I'm sure we will be paying through the nose for the privilege.
I just wonder at what point filling stations will start to be moved over to charging only.

                            Hi,

Thanks for the good news Fat Controller; it makes our Yeti good until I'm 103 by which time EV's will be out and a new type of fuel in. Saves me converting the Yeti to an AA battery. :dbgrtmb:

                            Kind regards, Colin.

I haven't quite got my head around how the filling stations are going to organise it. It appears that as cars will need to be at the charging point much longer than they are at the pumps they would need to have considerably more spaces for cars and charge a fairly high price to pay for the overheads.

Eventually i see large areas added to existing motorway service areas.
But obviously they have to work out how to get that amount of power to them.
As for town charging at some point any one driving a ice vehicle is going to find parking more and more difficult as more spaces have chargers added to them.
