I think i could have written your list Fidgetsmum.
I think you're the only person to give the vacuum cleaner a mention.

I would have to take the coffee maker out of the useless list. I use mine all the time.

Sorry Martin - off course you mentioned Hoover.
But I'll let you into a secret - if you don't use it for 7 years nothing gets any worse after that :D I'm sure I've seen people who were putting it to the test :yez:

All three of my sons are doing just that ... a hoover is something dads have but never need to be used by them .. wasn't it a famous author who didn't dust and noticed that after a certain point it never got any thicker ? :lollol:

Quentin Crisp, yes. It's true, but you have to get to that point first! I'd rather do a bit of housework now and again!

I'd rather not .. but as I am not a millionaire and can't afford a lady who does then I have to do my fair share around the house ..:cry::cry:

The main electrical thing I couldn't do without is a Kettle, I live on Tea.

I wish I didn't need a PC but I've come to depend on it, I do banking on-line and buy as much as possible over the internet because I hate shopping. It is an invaluable source of information for all my DIY stuff.

I suppose the hoover, washing machine, tumble drier and iron are vital.

I have a few power tools, screwdrivers/drills etc that make life easier.

We have just put a waste disposal in our new kitchen, I wouldn't have bothered but Mrs JWK has got so used to using the last one. We also have a Warmin Drawer which may well prove to be a white elephant.

Everything else I could live without. I hardly watch the telly - we have a small portable but I wouldn't miss it if it went.

:) Now looking at other folk's responses, I have thought again ...

Yes, a PC is a link with the outside world ...be it in another country or next door ... :hehe:

Kettle .. I am a lazy git here ... I have peppermint tea in the morning then an Earl Grey and I put a teabag in the mug and into the microwave it goes for one minute ... quicker than the kettle ...

I have an upright Electrolux Glider vacuum but we have fully ceramic tiled floors here and just a few 'area rugs'

T'other half has to have his power tools and 'toys' ... patio vacuums, power washers, etc.

We had a waste disposal in Bucks and I must admit I liked it.

We do like the electric underblankets in the winter .... :yez:

How much did a shilling equal Alice?

    240 pence to the pound.

    And

The two bob bit, florin, to those that were educated.

Not seen a tanner in years.

Sorry, digressing as Ronny Corbett used to say.:D

My jukeboxes are still set up to take two shilling pieces, or the "new" big 10p piece. Fortunately I've about a fiver's worth.

Yes, off course you're both right.
A shilling was 5 pence. (not 10 pence)
    And 2/- was a florin
And 2/6 was half a crown.
    And 6d was a tanner.
And there were 10/- notes (50p now)
And £5 notes had to be signed before they could change hands
And the tooth fairies brought silver 3d
    And there were 3d bits
And thank goodness I'm not living in those days :)

Ahhh I remember I got a shilling for each year I was alive as pocket money but it could buy so much ... airfix soldiers to melt with a magnifying glass and Bazooka Gum .. but like Pete I digress ...

Another electrical item to my must have list .. ELECTRIC BLANKET which is going back on the bed this weekend .. the climb into bed which is warm and inviting is bliss.
