Decimalisation was 1971 if I recall correctly Victoria, but some of the old coins were still in use for a few years after that, maybe thats why some of the younger ones still remember them.

Decimal coinage was introduced in 1968.

A 2/- piece was still effectively a "new 10p" right up until the end of June 1993, when only the new smaller 10p introduced was legal currency. So the florin was still around twenty-five years after the introduction of decimal currency. I've several mixed with other old 10p pieces that I use in one of my jukeboxes.

I remember "black jacks" and "fruit salads" at 4 an old penny. Beech nut chewing gum from a machine at 1d , every fourth go you got one free ! And JWK my favourite coin also was the 2/6d , half a crown ,or half a dollar as we called it, a huge coin - you could weigh it in for its scrap value these days :D

    Does NASA know that? :hehe:

I very well remember the day Britain 'went decimal' - February 15th, 1971, my Mum's 45th birthday. I left work at lunchtime to buy her some flowers and the woman in the shop asked me if I wanted my change " ... in decimal or proper money".

I've got a hot air body dryer in the bathroom.
It's only 2 years old but the remote died and I had to get another one.

    Remote control + delivery + VAT = £75 !

I feel as if I've been ripped off :(

Doghouse, I can see you with your golf trolley. But somehow I never imagined Alice with a hot air body dryer. I've now revised my mental picture. I reckon she has shoe racks full of Louboutins. :hehe:

And mine, John, unfortunately. When my Mum started work she was told 'don't bother looking at the clients' clothes. It doesn't matter if they look like tramps. Just examine their shoes and you'll know exactly who they are.' So I suppose mine say 'middle of the road high street, nothing to write home about'. :lollol:
