I am intending to grow in John inns no 3 with more added grit I will follow your advice and put "swell gell" towards the bottom of the pot , would you say plastic or clay pots is best

For permanent pot growing I use clay/terracotta pots.

 

For plunge-planting of pots, of clump-forming species, such as Agapanthus I am now favouring "Bucket" shaped black plastic pots. They are very robust, and around 20L in size. Easy to overwinter under cover (stacked up / whatever) and "disappear" from view when plunge-planted. Terracotta more likely to break / get frosted / etc. I think.

I don't think the general discussion had done but that's what I'm going to do with mine.

 

I've just had a look around and can't see any Eucomis available yet, probably won't be until February.

Anglia Bulbs have them (and I've always been happy with their bulbs), but only the "Normal contenders" and I expect you are looking for some of the more unusual ones

Just been on Avon Bulb's site and they have Eucomis in stock - including more varieties than Anglia Bulbs - such as Pink Gin.

Thanks Kristen, I must have missed that site, I see they have Sparkling Burgundy so I might order a couple and possibly Pink Gin.

From their blurb it appears it may be a Sport that arose in their nursery??

 

just ordered the "pink gin" from Avon Bulbs , had a email telling me it is now available , but I think they only have about 50 so they go really quick
