I just googled 'Simply The Best' rose and what d'ya know - Gardeners Corner came up so that's why I have resurrected this thread :)

As you can see by my avatar - roses are my favourite flowers. The avatar rose is Superstar which was growing in the garden where we used to live. Pity we couldn't bring it with us but maybe some day I will get another one. And if I only had room for one rose Superstar would be my choice.

Back to 'Simply The Best' - I have ordered on line and expecting delivery tomorrow.
It's for our son for his garden and it is very aptly named.

So difficult to choose just one.

I'm a huge fan of just about anything produced by David Austin.

I have a Lady of Shalott as well, which is just producing its first flower for me (only recently purchased and had been pruned back).

I have several others which I've purchased recently, a few of which I am still waiting to flower, but my favourite so far is a climber, Teasing Georgia, which is stunning :wub2:

I'm so envious of you all, I have no roses at the moment. But that's all going to change. :) Later in the year I'm going to dig myself a bed for roses and next year I will be joining you all here!

Well, I went down to the pond area to check on the climbing roses there, and maybe take a pic for this thread. So I did a bit of tying in of the stems and a bit of pruning here and there, and didn't see until too late my first flower from "Bright Future" because it was down low....snip and then there went the spray of flowers and buds:gaah: , if I remember correctly I said something like "Good Heavens to Murgatroyd" or something "similar"!!:heehee: I guess I'll have to wait for the next spray to open before I can take a pic.:dunno::snork:

When we planted our Rose garden we went to the local rose nursery's fields where they grow and selected from them. Thus we saw the flowers at all stages of growth, and the scent etc. (and I much prefer to plant bare-root ... the plants have been fantastic quality).

Scent was high on our want-list as they are planted right next to our dining-out patio ...

We choose Just Joey at the front, and Chandos Beauty at the back. But this has very little to do with "if you had a tiny garden WHICH SINGLE rose would plant" ... but I would use the same selection method if I was buying one/many rose plants again.

Who ever the "great and the good" are, Jenny, I'm sure they make mistakes too.:heehee:
I, like Kristen, prefer bare root roses to plant, and I know a lot of people swear by and love David Austin, who have done a remarkable marketing job in building trust, quality and a customer loyalty but I have never bought from them:dunno: I do look for qualities like strong scent, repeat flowering and am prepared to forgive things like being not quite as resistant to fungal disease as I can deal with that myself. I did have a look at Madame Alfred Carriere down at the pond and I don't think she is going to oblige me with that many, if any, flowers this year.....but there's always next year.:hapydancsmil:
