Hi Dee,I thought the flowers needed to be pollinated by insects but it doesn't seem to be the case as this plant is in the green house.Of the two plants this is doing the best but hopefully the other one will catch up and give a later crop.I have it in a large flowerpot, and even though I don't like to eat tomato's myself I am pleased with the results, considering the two seedlings were thrown out at 2 inches high because they refused to grow when they should have. I'm having a go at growing seeds this year.
I have planted some easy one, or so I'm told ,to start.
    Marigolds and Asters.
They are on the window sill in the laundry.
I'll let you no how I get on.
You may be hearing from me for some tips and advise. :D

Daisy Dee - I love your cat. If only I knew I would tell you. I usually like to Google up to 20 pages or more, and then take the average - you can get a lot of variation. I have found these - but there must be more. This is a cut and paste job from Nicky's Seeds- so don't ask me what it means:-

    Hardy Perennial
30°C day 20°C night alternating temp
    Yes average layer vermiculite
    Sow Spring and Summer
    Germination 3-5 weeks

Or can be Sown at 18-22°C constant temp until germinated 25-35 days
    Hardiness Zone 5-8

    And this from another site:-

There are two varieties, Physalis Alkekengi and Physalis Franchetti, the latter having the larger ââ?¬Å?lanternsââ?¬Â, the plant prefers a strong soil.
It may be raised from seed sown in the open in June and July, and transplanted to flower the next year.
As it loses its top-growth during winter, a stick should be set to mark the place of the roots.

My own method, unless I know to do different, is to sow all seeds inside on 1st March. I sow in seed trays or small pots, and cover with some sort of lid or polythene bag to keep the moisture in. The temperature aspect is taken care of by the fact that it is inside a heated house. When the seedlings have 2 to 4 leaves on, I pot them up individually - still indoors close to a window.

Lyn - we are all tempted to sow things too early. I have to be very stern with myself and stick to 1st March.

I am sure there is no problem, but you must put them as close to the light as possible, and rotate them every day, as they will grow towards the light. And possibly keep them somewhere it is not too hot. They get leggy when they get more heat than light.

I had no idea they would grow so quickly.
I only planted them the 9th and the are well through.
They are on the window sill so I will turn them everyday.

I have really only every planted plants in the garden before apart from house plants and bulbs.
I hope I can keep them.
    Exciting this growing lark. :D

    Sown today.
    Cineraria Silver Dust 5,000
    Cinerairia Cirrus 1,000
As our geranium and Begonia plugs are arriving a week earlier than last year I have sown the Cinerarias a week earlier too. This is because of space limitations and Cinerarias can be put outside to harden off earlier than most summer bedding plants making room for something else.
