Quite a few venues/clubs have banned the use of lead weights and require synthetic ones, also need to check whether barbless hooks are required, any restrictions on use/type of keepnets and probably some other stuff. All that hassle and you don't get to keep/eat coarse fish like what you do with sea fishing.

I think this happened quite a few years ago. I was referring to 'lead' as opposed to lead :blue thumb:
As it looks like the fishing will be 'game', I'm fairly sure barbed hooks are allowed, might even be required?

At first it was no badgers, no snakes, no squirrels, etc., and now it's also no coarse fish!

Harry.... some interesting information there and also some that could have been omitted as useless, it's produced for visitors I think. :)

I wouldn't swim anywhere here let alone eat the fish! Well, maybe the reservoirs. :)

Thanks again for your help everyone! :dbgrtmb:

No foxes or deer either Scrungee! :)

Most fisheries round my way do not allow barbed hooks only barbles as these do less damage to the fish ,you will also find that keep nets are also not allowed unless you are match fishing again to keep the fish from getting damaged.Baits!these can vary from lake/pond owners, some allow one type but others will ban it,but you will always find a set of local rules where ever you go.
Some of the most baits that seem must popular all round are sweet corn, spam, bread, worm and pellets to name just a few.

My son is a keen Carp fisherman and is in fact out on the lake today and staying overnight, maybe two nights. His rods, reels etc amount to over £3000 worth but then he has been fishing all his life and usually nets and releases 20lb+ specimens, he uses a mixture of bait but is quite secretative about what he uses which annoys the other fishermen as he is so successful. I wish him success but would suggest that fly fishing maybe a bit adventurous to start on. Depends whether he wants to catch and release or fish for food, ie trout or salmon which of course is basically fly.

Thank you @moyra. My husband has put this idea on hold for the time being until we move house. We are leaving the island so there is no point in getting involved with licences etc. here. :)

I'm a fanatical angler having fished for everything from a Minnow to a Marlin(caught a lot more minnows mind). Should your other half need any advice, more than happy to offer some , I would need to know where you are going to be fishing first.

Mr S is still mulling the idea over @burnie but thank you for the offer. :) We're leaving the island in six weeks and coming to your part of the world.....well not so far away. Inverness-shire.

Hmmm not a lot of coarse fishing in that neck of the woods, Perch and Pike will be it. Some good sea fishing over to the west side on the sea lochs and Salmon(expensive) and trout fishing too
