Sorry I didn't know you had been burgled:frown:

I can understand perhaps making a new door if the smashing out of the lock had broken the door stile.
I could also understand some damage of the stained glass during removal.
Was it a leaded light?, often the lead gets damaged, but can be repaired using the old glass.

So I see no reason why they should have not refitted the old glass, maybe with some repair and the old brass furniture.
But was that agreed before they started?

I really don't know what the answer is, but if they're vague about the original door and its furniture then there's something amiss.

I've often replaced front doors, you just take the measurements of the components and the overall size, and unless told otherwise the old one gets skipped.

Ah, thanks for that. It was agreed that the door would be replaced as it was badly splintered and weakened. But not the glass.

However, at least the pillaging hordes are being kept out for the moment, and I'm grateful for that.

Unsure of what your actual original door was like
Was it a Vestibule door with" leaded window",and brass fittings ?
Ours was beautiful, but fell to bits when they tried to replace the door shell

Not worth the effort to actually steal it, but worth a few bob, to a workman
as original glass is worth a "FEW" bob

The workman would get £50 the Artisan who made a new leaded window with
original glass with a lot of work would get about £800

The insurance company would be happy with a replica than paying an extra £800
to have your original put in the new shell
Apears to be circumstances rather than pure THEFT imho

        I think so.

That's why I'm suspicious as it would have been far easier to refit the undamaged old glass than to make a brand new panel to look like the old one.
