I've said this before, we have pipelines all over the country for gas and petroleum products, both of which are essential for our modern lifestyles, - but why not pipelines for water which is of course essential for life itself.

This morning I put out two trays of plants in the borders and used the hosepipe to water them in. I was not breaking the law. I find that having a blue badge I am allowed to use my hosepipe and regard it as a privilege which I will not abuse. As it is so hot today the plants probably enjoyed the 'shower'.

Couldn't do this if we had standpipes could I?

You are most definitely allowed to use the hose but they originally said you must be sure to ... "only water things that you would otherwise water with a watering can". Our local authority changed that part and have made it more user friendly.

Terms and Conditions Applicable to the Exceptions

      2. Use of the hosepipe must be handheld at all times unless the property has a water meter.

I am on a water meter Shiney so I wouldn't use too much water
even if there wasn't a hosepipe ban.

It took over an hour, using the hose (although I don't have a Blue Badge I do have a medical exemption - pretty little piece of paper from the water authority :) ), to water all our normal lot of baskets, pots, greenhouse etc as well as the 1,000+ plants for our charity sale. :phew:
