      A pessimist would way that flowering of those is therefore imminent :(

      But take your point that some flower and don't die, and some look like they don't ever flower :)

      Now you have me worried. I've just had a delivery of Bamboo plants. Perhaps it will be 100 years before they flower. :fingers crossed:

      Wish I could reassure you, Lea, that they only do it if stressed etc., but mine had just enjoyed a lovely (for bamboos) mild, wet winter. I'll keep my fingers crossed for yours too.
      The rhizomes appear to be healthy enough and it's still colonising gently, so I'll have to wait and see if the new growth has got over itself. As you have to wait for two years for the culms to turn black, I'm in for the long haul......

      Flowering bamboo is a heaven sent opportunity for new seed from which to grow loads and loads of new plants which will take maybe 100 years before it flowers again and dies. I have done this many times with some of my bamboo. I have never known it to regrow though :(
