Where do you live, north or south? Peaches like warmth.

I'm in SW France. There are bumble bees on my peaches at the moment and I don't do anything to fertilise them.

We have plenty of bumbles out in hampshire already but the peach flowers never seem to get much attention, I think theyre really warped due to funny breeding. They never fully open. could also be infection by leaf curl which it gets every year. Ill try pollinating them too in a few days.

You should see the pollen on the anthers develop and mature to a yellow dust that easily brushes off, if it isnt there its too early.

I have used a cotton bud in the past. All you need to do it gently extend the cotton out into a bit of a point, so it's a little softer.

None of anyone else's business, surely? And if anyone is rude enough to ask, you can tell them it's to pollinate your peaches and watch their face as they try to work out whether you mean something rude (if they're not a gardener).

You don't always see the pollen if it's cold, that's why it needs doing at the warmest part of the day.

Again the pigeons are having a feast. They are on one of the plum trees which has flower buds on and are happily (for them and not us) pecking away at the buds. Once they have done that and the new leaves are produced they then denude branches. Don't understand why they can't go and tackle the many trees on the other side of the field. They never attack the pears, plums or quinces but the plums are the first, then the cherries and then the gages.

You could loudly accuse them of misgendering you. "How dare you assume I'm a male!"

theyre already bitter, wierd they like them. maybe cultivars are less so? try nibling one :rolleyespink: I find its year by year, last year they ate almost every flower but so far nothing this year.

Pollen is usually a yellow dust, its visible if you look closely.

hmm i dont want to go down this route. Theres enough drama on some of these gardening forums and i dont want to enter the gender debate though i am aware that its becoming more and more common for men to paint their nails.Presumambly they buy the coloured nail paint from the same place in tesco that sells the make up brushes

Anyway, I went to a specialist art shop and bought a brush from there
