      As far as I am aware @Gay Gardener - I was subjected to a near interrogation just before Christmas when posting gifts, and the emphasis was clearly on liquids (although apparently fancy hand creams were allowed), and batteries (including toys or gadgets containing batteries).

      Mind you, that was at my local PO Counter, and to be honest they are a few lumens short of a decent torch

        I was in our town main PO today and reading the information posters and liquids are ok as long as they're wrapped well.
        The only exceptions are spirits such as whisky over 40% and any other alcohol ( either drinkable or chemical ) over 70%.

          I had thought of asking at my local PO, but it is the size of a child's shoe box shoved into the corner of a village shop and the people that work there seem to be able to manage only the very basic postal requirements (i.e. selling you stamps) everything else and they look at you like you had just asked them to perform emergency brain surgery. Our old PO was fab though, people professional, of course closed it down last year due to the 'cuts' just like everything else. Moan over.

          I have found a source for the vinegar sachets though ...

            My memory from childhood, home school lunch (I got bullied so I had to go home, 20 mins there, 20 mins max, then 20 mins back
            Cheese pasty- local bakers
            Baked beans- guess?
            Gravy- left over from Sunday lunch
            This lunch should give me bad memories but all I remember is
            Lots of love and a lunch I would love today:spinning:
            Unfortunately I'm trying to lose weight, so I'm laying off the pastry:biggrin:

                I remember Ulster Fry. We used to buy it in a small tin. It tasted a bit like smoky bacon. I'm not sure if it's still possible to get it - used to love it for breakfast! :spinning:

                  Is that the same Mince for Mincemeat pies, or a different mince. Or is it ground up hamburger meat cooked with dumplings? (just a guess).

                    Ulster is the name of the province in Northern Ireland that the dish originates from :)

                    The tinned version which @Fern4 is referring to in her post isn't the whole cooked breakfast though.

                    I think the nearest we have now is Bacon Grill

                      we have a canned version like you have in the blue can. (forgot the name right now) called spam. have not used in tons of years. But locally there is a thing called scrapple. Its a country thing. We all know its loaded with left over stuff from the pig and corn filler. People love it thin sliced and fried crisp, if I eat it once every two years that is about it. It is good, but something I really avoid. But worth the taste to say you ate it.

                          It is what you would call ground hamburger.
                          In the UK to distinguish between the meat version and the pie filling they are called different things.
                          The pie filling is mincemeat (sweet, full of fruit, contains suet and, originally - we're talking centuries ago - would also contain meat). The term is never shortened and is one word.
                          The term used for what you call "ground" meat is: "minced meat" (minced beef, minced pork, minced lamb, so, two words) or, in general, mince for short. :)
