Football world cup thread.

But England have done better under Southgate than any other manager I can remember.
I'm not well up on the tactics side of it all, but I do like to see a team that wants to score goals.
England mostly do appear to want to score these days rather than all that possession play and doing nothing with it that we used to see under other managers.

 

What about Eddie Howe? Newcastle looked certain to be relegated last year and now they are knocking on the door of a champions league spot. I think Southgate has found his level but I wouldn't mind if he is still in charge for qualifying for the Euro's. We have played some attractive football and thumped a few in the process, but it's no good putting 10 past San Marino and then struggle to find the net against the higher ranked nations which you need to beat to win a tournament.

I would like to see the FA arrange more friendlies with higher ranked teams, it is over 5 years since we played Brazil and over a decade since we played Argentina. Would also like to see the home nations brought back.

 

They have done well in the past 2 or 3 tournaments but when you look at the fixtures to get to euro final think they only played Germany ( a team in transition ) and beat them can't think of any good teams they beat when it matters. World cup 2018 the run to the semi were a shoe in got dumped out by croatia they a very good team but still would of expected to get round them . Euro final negative tactics cost the game. 2022 World cup was unfortunate but still lost again against a slightly weakened French team with 12 men on the pitch.

The Nations league ( glorified friendly's ) is why rarely friendly's between nations outside of Europe happen anymore .

Eddie howe done a great job at Newcastle they are playing some good stuff . I wouldn't be to bothered if Southgate stayed to the Euros he has done a decent job compared to previous managers .
