I was delighted to see my first bloom of the season on my Newbiscus. Again, as last year it is 26cm across. There are 15 stems and up to 8 buds per stem. I shall be keeping my camera to hand ....

Beautiful Vicky - I'm still waiting for mine to flower. I've got at least 8 plants - you'd think one could co-operate wouldn't you :)

Marley, it just went down to the soil over the winter, even here so we really wondered if it would come back.

Walnut, my dear nut, my beautiful Chinese ones (rosa-sinensis) have only recently started to bud and flower.

Clematis ... thank you, have you actually seen this one? As I've said the flowers are 26cm wide! If mine are only starting, yours may have some catching up to do .. but you guys have yours in conservatories/greenhouses and mine have to tolerate the cold/hot elements here.

But I love them, the more exotic and flambouyant the better ... as I know Marley does ... :luv:

Walnut these are gorgeous. Have you any tips and advice as to bringing them on from seed? I have just set some seed I ordered and am keeping my fingers crossed. I believe they are sporadic germinators

      Rg said.
very much so the fresher the seed the better,I obtained a batch of seed from the u s out of 50 seeds I had one germinate that took 6 weeks,a batch of 10 from another source had 90% germination in a fortnight, obviously some varieties germinate easier than other also you don't know how old the seeds are.It is advised that you nick the seed something I find difficult to do having rather large hands I soak them for 48 hrs instead, plant them in individual cells in a multipurpose they can then be easily transplanted without root disturbance, plant them late spring to take advantage of the warmer months they will grow steadily at 20c move them on when the cell is root full,if they are outdoor hibs don't put them out until the second year after the frosts have gone, this will give them a chance to establish a good root system before winter, tropical ones if you can keep a minimum temperature of 10c this will keep them ticking over.

Thamks walnut. I got the seeds from Jungle seeds. I've never used them before so I have no idea how fresh the seed is. I soaked it as it instructed me to do so. I have them in the conservatory with a plastic lid on top.:)

The Newbiscus opening fully, flopping under the weight of the flowers and suffering in the heat requiring watering twice a day ....
