Sorry to hear your news Elizabeth and Zigs. It boils down to the fact these people don't love your home the way you do, or they wouldn't make bad remarks.

I've lived in eight houses down the years, six of which I owned so have a little experience on buying/selling. :)

The people to beware of are those that want to come and view at weekends, particularly on a Sunday. We found more often than not they were time wasters and out looking at houses just to while away their time and be nosey, on what to them is a boring Sunday.

I've read tales of potential buyers sending their parents round to diss houses that they want to buy in order to get the price lowered. Wondering if this is one of those cases.:th scifD36:

Will view any new offers with suspicion.

It's terrible Zigs, if it isn't stressful enough buying and selling, there's the added strain of trying to sniff out who's genuine and who isn't!

Sheal, we didn't have any bad remarks - just a terrible offer lol.
They still loved it and wanted to buy, just clearly not enough.
Apparently my bedroom felt like 'coming home' :snork:

Sorry Elizabeth, what I said was for Zigs.

Regarding the offer, I wouldn't write that off as the last time you hear from those people, they may well come back to you again after giving it more thought, especially if they are seriously interested.

Many years ago I can remember when we had one of our houses up for sale, we'd just agreed to sell it to someone at the asking price when a man turned up on the doorstep offering us cash and no chain, for more than the other person was paying. Having been gazumped ourselves in the past we decided to stay loyal to the first person. This my husband told the chap and he became so desperate, he was begging us to sell to him and started to use threatening behaviour. My husband told him to leave and shut the door. The following day he was back again for another try and a higher offer, it was very tempting but my husband told him no again and that was the last we saw of him. :) It was a sellers market and perhaps we should have raised the asking price. It's amazing what people will do for the love of a house!

I've known that but even worse - the real potential buyers were relatives of the estate agents.

Well, my parents have decided to negotiate with the wannabe buyers, but now they really are messing them around by saying they've seen another now and might like it better!

My parents have also decided to go for the whole property that they wanted, and have made an offer which has now been accepted! Just fingers crossed that the buyers stop messing my parents around and just get on with it.

Fingers crossed Elizabeth! :) It sounds to me as if your parents buyers are preparing to put in a lower offer. I think they are trying to call their bluff with this other property in the background. I wouldn't give them any leeway now, if they like your parents house that much they will buy whatever. If it was me, I would tell them I want a decision in the next week and if I didn't get one I'd tell them to forget it. Some buyers like to play mind games, to see how far they can push the vendors.

Sheal, I think they have tonight to decide ;)
It does sound a bit of a bluff doesn't it?

                  Fingers crossed!

Well, we're still waiting. They decided yesterday they needed to come see the house again, and came today. Weren't very long, didn't really say anything at all and weren't very communicative.

Didn't hear from the estate agents after, so I guess it's Monday before we'll know.

I think they're playing silly beggars. After saying they had another house, and the estate agent tells us ours is their favourite, to then act all shut off and silent!
I think it's a ploy to try to get the price down again. The estate agent has no motive to tell us their customer likes us best - they don't get anything out of it.

Although their little girl made it very clear she liked the house.
Apparently my old bedroom is going to be her room, and she loves the idea of a swimming pool and all the garden space to run around!

Well, after a week of them not answering the phone they've now turned around and made an offer on another property! So sadly my parents have had to back out of the purchase of their dream home, and now at risk of losing it next week :(

I've now posted the house up on gumtree, preloved and vivastreet though!

Also going to get some new photos for them when I go down Tuesday.
