    probably easier. More worrying is that if the fuel pump has failed then the injectors may need overhaul or replacement at a cost of £600 to £1000 for the set :yikes:

    Well, I'm using the main dealer in Kent, that's where I bought the car.

    So I assume they are up to spec on things, but must admit, I do wonder at times.

    It's quite a good search and diagnosis system as Vauxhall, VW, Nissan, etc, use but with the obvious specific software written for Fords. The trouble is that certain symptoms can results in several diagnosis scenarios. My local garage can diagnose my car with his software and that came up with different answers for my car's problem.........but the fitter's experience with Fords gave him a gut feeling what specifically was wrong, and he was right.

    Longk . Yes I realise all the other sensors and things the readers/scanners can pick up and how many things there are that can have the effect this car is suffering from. I was trying not to rabbit on to much and complicate the situation further.
    I still think the key here is a good bloke with a good reader and some blooming common sense. Many techs in many dealers seem not to have that winning combination.

      Well, my car is down for being exchanged for a newer one this year. And, despite all the woes said about diesels, it'll probably be another diesel as I like them.:heehee:

        2.5 Was a peach of an engine. Haven't driven one like yours though .

        Real shame the car is playing up. Maybe try a different dealer or get Ford to send out a competent field engineer ?

          Well, I've taken it all up with Ford Customer Services from the start.
          Although it was a used car, the previous owner was actually the Ford motor company.
          They call it Ford Direct.

          This engine runs really nice when its working OK, good acceleration and smooth.
          You still get that turbo lag, that they say you dont though.

          It has an annoying exhaust sound if you push it hard though, dont mind a growl from the engine, in fact I like one, but this is an odd high pitched sound from the exhaust, can be annoying if you listen to it.

                All the manufacturers have very different platforms, some laptop based (like the Ford IDS) and others totally bespoke (like the Mercedes STAR).

                Then there are the aftermarket systems. The pick of the bunch is Autologic - you buy the machine and add the modules that you want at about £6000 each (plus annual license).
