Can I suggest that anyone having problems gives Firefox a shot - since the server move, I haven't had a single issue, and everything is lightning quick

Take your point (and kind suggestion) FC - but there are people on here with IE who are not having the same problems as I am. So it would be no guarantee of a problem free solution. It also suggests to me that the problem isn't necessarily with the any of them but with its root in GC itself. But, I'm no techie.

            Oh look it worked!

Fern......keep an eye on the clock when it's not working properly. I also find it's worse at particular times of day, especially around early evening when there are more members posting.

I use a laptop finger pad and have discovered that it's easier to bring up a quote (when it decides to work) if I double tap on the scroll bar line on the right hand side, weird!

FC......I've not tried Firefox as yet but willing to give it a go. I will need my son-in-law's assistance to install it, so when that eventually happens I'll let you know the outcome. :)

I'm like Woo, no trouble with my nuts. :heehee:

This morning I had the opposite of a problem. I don't know how it appeared but there was a small circle in the middle of the screen with up and down arrows in it. If I put my cursor on the circle the screen stayed as it was but if I moved my cursor above or below the circles the screen started scrolling in that direction.

The further away from the circle the faster the screen went. So I moved the cursor just below the circle and I could sit back and read the whole page as it gradually scrolled upwards. There was no need to touch the mouse or computer :blue thumb:

When I closed that page the circle disappeared.

I don't think it's a GC facility. So any ideas?

                  Thanks @Jiffy :blue thumb:

Didn't know that . I must have a very light touch on the mouse not to have had it happen before. The judge did say I was light fingered :loll:

Just to clarify that, I'm no longer having to hit the 'Post Reply' button more than once, images upload first time without error messages, inserting quotes using the toolbar button is now working (used to lose a ] when pasting text between tags), there's no lagging, no problems now whatsoever, all fixed.

Firefox is installed and I've spent a couple of evenings using it for GC. Thank you FC, it's a big improvement although I still have a few niggles but none that can't be lived with. :dbgrtmb:

Okay, back to square one! :doh:I've only been using Firefox for GC and have developed other issues so I'm back on IE again.

The forum has started lagging on Firefox which is partly why I switched from IE. Also, when I'm using it my laptop fan comes on and stays on. Firefox has also started crashing regularly, I really don't know what to do anymore, I can't think of anything else to try. Any ideas please?

@Jack McHammocklashing was posting the same post 4 times over earlier this evening. He put it down to forum lagging - which, in my experience this evening is equally true!

Just a thought: this morning, my automatic Java update popped up. I installed it. This morning, GC ran fine (I'm on IE) but, 12 hours later, the forum is lagging (again!).

Wonder if that is pure coincidence, or, if there is a time delay between me upgrading my Java and the forum software being updated? :dunno: Most likely unrelated, but ... just a thought :)

Fan coming on and staying on means that it is working its wee socks off, and in more than one way. I am getting no lag at all now, and indeed have no issues other than I no longer get email alerts for whatever reason.

I recently had problems with my Vaio laptop, and the symptoms were similar to yours - fan on constantly, browsers hanging/crashing, webpages (particularly forums [fora?]) lagging or not loading at all. After a process of elimination, I arrived at a wi-fi issue. In short, the wifi signal was showing as being top notch, but the reality was that it was dropping packets all over the place.

I took a gamble, and went for one of these wee fellows - the difference was remarkable; I have since bought a new router which has made a further massive difference in the overall performance of the network. Might be worth gambling a tenner to see if it is your laptop's internal wi-fi adapter that isn't too clever?

                            Also, you could try:

                            - Download and run CCleaner
                            - Within CCleaner, run the registry checker and fix all the issues it finds
                            - Download and run Defraggler, and then set Defraggler to run on each boot (takes seconds to do if it runs every time the PC starts)
                            - Within CCleaner, go to the startup tab and disable absolutely everything that does not need to start automatically
                            - Download and reinstall FireFox, Chrome etc
                            - Consider installing AdBlock plug-in to Firefox
                            - Consider getting a can of compressed air and use it to blow the cooling system on your laptop through (usually best done with the machine off and blowing the air in backwards (against its normal flow direction)
                            - Backup, backup, backup. If all else fails, you can then reinstall Windows which is nigh on a certainty to get your machine behaving once more.
                            - Run a full virus scan
                            - Download and run Malwarebytes

If you get stuck, download TeamViewer 10, you can then PM me the one time PIN and I can pop on over the net and have a look for you :)

Interesting thoughts "M" but what I don't get is why it's only on GC. I don't have problems with anything else on the web and I've had problems for at least the last two years with GC, which is stirred up every time GC has a server change.
