Helen,I never saw Loddie to begin with Mr K swerved to avoid hitting it as it was about to cross the road.He doesn't always turn the car round when I want to rescue birds etc, that have come to grief but because this was an unusual one he did.I think it was half asleep being nocturnal because he only did one hop when i approached him and then I threw my small coat on top of him.I was then able to pick him up and he snuggled down in my arms as we continued driving home.:)

When I phoned the rescue centre the lady asked if there were any more, well we didn't think to look, thinking he was the only one:oToo well if there was a family of them...

The little dog in my Avatar is Tina, the dog we rescued as a pup at four months old and had her until she was nearly fifteen until we had to let her go over the rainbow bridge. The painting is one that Dag one of the members on here painted of her for us to keep:)

I am so glad that you both came across Loddy - and that he is now getting best care at a reputable rescue (ditto Cookie Monster's reluctance re. Pets at Home).

I think you know I have guinea pigs too - unfortunately, I am allergic to chincillas - their hair is so fine! I looked after a friend's ones once - they are lovely - but do need a lot of care and time and space. poor thing having bumblefoot. I hope he does well after vet's visit - do let us know how he gets on.

Well done, Kandy, on being able to rescue Loddie. Now he has a chance of getting well and finding a new home, or his old one if he escaped from it.

He is darling, pity Willow and Poppy were eyeing him as their next meal. I think you had taken a shine to him, and perhaps he could have gone in with the piggies, or wouldn't that have worked?

Please keep us posted when you hear anything else about him.

:)Hi everyone,Thankyou for your kind words and glad that you like the photos:)

Imp, these type of Chinchillas are £60 in the shops and the other colours are double that {£120} plus they need a very strong cage and are Nocturnal so would be awake at night when you were trying to sleep:(

Jarbax, sorry to hear about your allergy,we read on Google that one of the things that they do when in fright is to shed their fur or spray wee all over the aggressor so my house would have stunk with Poppy and Willow trying to stalk it:(

KG,I am afraid that Guneia Pigs and Chinchillas don't mix.The Chinchillas need a very large strong cage to stop them eating their way through it plus they have to have sand to bathe in and being nocturnal would become very active when Poor old Punky and Mabel were trying to sleep.

I will ring up later on in the week to see how he is getting on.I do hope they manage to find a good home for him.

The RSPCA was talking on the radio yesterday and were saying that more and more animals are being abandoned each year because their owners no longer want them. One lady handed in her cat to the RSPCA because it didn't match the colour of her new carpet. How sad is that:eek:

Good for you taking so much trouble Kandy. I once ran over a rabbit in the New Forest, i stopped the car & put it on the back seat. it didn't seem physically injured except for a little trickle of blood from it's nose. o/h at the time said ' and what are you going to do with it now?' it was about 3 in the morning!! I watched it as i was driving & it started to get livelier so i let it go. I hope it was alright. maybe your chinchilla had been clipped by a vehicle & that was why it was a bit docile. I hope it goes to a good home.

Are there kennel type places that you can put animals like this the same as you can for cats & dogs? Just started me thinking of something.

    cheers

Hi Borrowers,I tried ringing NANNA this morning to see how they got on with taking Loddie to the vets, but just got the answering machine again so have sent them an email.I expect they are busy for most of the day so will answer the email when they have more time:)

Good for you for stopping to help the bunny.I have heard a lot of people say that they would rather leave them to die or to squash them flat as they reagard them as a pest.

We find while we are out driving that one of the most stupid birds are the Pheasants. They seem to go every way in an attempt to get themselves run over.Luckily we have never done that because we are usually swerving all over the place to avoid hitting them:D
