Gonna be fun not only seeing if I can keep them growing, but then I will be relying on all here to identify what they are - from the look of the site, prolly floribunda's or hybrid teas - but who knows. I'll prolly containerise them to give them a recovery phase and to check identify/colour then into good Bedfordshire clay, which I have no doubt they will enjoy.

That reminds me - I need to get some more compost which I can get at the nursery I hope, if not on the way home.

I'll post pictures as they develop to share the fun.

Well all twelve are safely planted into containers with compost and slow release fertiliser. Pruned to reduce the stress, and well watered. Right mixture of very old and less so - not sure they were treated all that well in the past - but we shall see how they survive. I will of course be relying on you to identify the survivors. :D

I began to think they were jinxed. Strained my sacro-iliac in the process of humping round compost etc which made life interesting as I hobbled gingerly around to avoid spasm - well gotta eat and drink. Then bulb going blew my light circuit - ever tried changing fuse wire with a bad back. Then router decided to malfunction, so internet was unavailable. Much fiddling, cursing and finally got on.

Hopefully that is the end of the gremlins - and the roses will survive their uprooting - and I will revert to normal movement.

I'm glad you've taken them in, Fran - they sound like they need some TLC! As do you, now! Frozen peas applied for 10-15 minutes every hour on the hour - that'll do the trick, as my osteopath in Hemel used to say!! True, though - but don't let anyone eat the peas!! :D

Forgotten the picture in my post (sheesh - mind is failing :D )

Paladin - your a glutton for punishment <gg>. Wouldn't it be nice though if all survived and flourished.

Denbobrium - (whispering)I am keeping my fingers crossed as the acute thingy seems to be settling - so haven't had to use the frozen peas yet (well it would have to be beans cos I ain't got no peas).

Keep you fingers cross for me eh - spring is not the best time for SI joint problems [IMG]

So my back told me :D - but so far the shoots are still still looking healthy. We shall see how they do and if they survive and grow, then happy to share some with others later.

Fran they look so different from the ragged bunch I passed on. You certainly give a good make over [IMG]
I'm sure they will pick up,my few have thrown out buds and I am looking foreward to asking for ID as you will be.
I will get as many more as I can as I'm sure other folk will want a few. All we need is a network of delivery/collection service ;)
    Any thoughts folks?

Was it a yellow label by any chance, cos one had a bit of one on it. Sounds like a winner - fragrant cloud.

So far all the new shoots are looking good with signs of growth, but that will mainly be from the wood. Its early days, but I've given them best start I can. The prune was to remove dead and weak wood, and reduce water loss and stress.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they are and how they do. You remember the very green one - I'll take a bet that is a David Austin rose - same kind of growth as on my ones

Back is after a bit of a set back is settling down - so hopefully normal life will resume soon.

Pete I know what you mean about the van - how Paladin finds anything goodness knows :D :D

:D Hey..c'mon you two..I have to be prepared for anything you know! Never know what you might find in there ;)

Fran, the part label I have is a plastic one with a picture of the Rose and looks as if it was tied at the top through a hole.
