    Did that brown stalk come off that plant, or is it some kind of trick question.

    The brown flower stem reminds me of leonotis, but the leaves arn't right.
    Is it from a hardy border somewhere? if it is its not really my style. :cool: :D

    The bed was covered with them and the roots are quite thick but shallow.
    I spotted them months ago and today the client offered me as much as I wanted.
    I hoped to find out what they are before planting incase they are Triffids :D

    I hate to say it, but those spikes look like rushes or reeds to me!! So, add water and stand back, Nick!

    The seed head does look like a rush, but the leaves at the base were confusing me.
    If you can strip the pith and make a rush wick lamp - it's a rush [​IMG]

    :( My soil is light and well drained..I will pop them in and give them a good start ,promise, but they have two choices. You've got to be tough to stand tall in my plot. [​IMG]

    the leaves are more like the caltha palustris - are you sure it couldn't be 2 plants tangled up together, Nick?

    Have just washed off all the soil and there was just the one kind of plant.I had dug out a good 10" down.

    Looks quite a thug...think I'll pot it up and keep watch!
