Didn't mean to frighten you KG

Just didn't want you to get a fine. I got some grief when I came back from working in Turkey. I brought back a big sausage of cheese, a big no no from outside the EU.

I always go through the red zone, something to declare, as they are much nicer if you are owning up to something. I didn't know how many fags I could bring from outside EU & was over by 200. I got my cheque book out & offered to pay the duty straight away but they said it was OK & let me off. The cheese was a different matter though, bio security.

    Hi AndrewH
You can grow ginger from supermarket stuff.
You need a piece of ginger which has the little green growing shoots on it (otherwise forget it)
Plant the ginger in a big, deep pot with the little growing shoot just peeping through.
January or February is the time to do it,
Keep the ginger in a warm , indoor place, just damp.
It takes a while for the green shoots to come up.
As the ginger grows on keep it warm, or hot (I grow mine in the conservatory) and it likes to be humid, so stand in a tray of pebbles filled with water.
The leaves don't like to be scorched so other plants standing round about to make a "shady jungle" is ideal.
Grow on until December when the leaves will start to die down.
Stop watering and let the plant die off for a few weeks.
Sometime in January tip the pot out and there is your ginger - great big chunks
Replant the thin roots for next year.
Sounds complicates - but it's not.

    Hey Victória,

Liquorice ginger used to be a poplier snack with the chinese community, just cant find it now.

Its slices of ginger root dipped in liquorice powder & ( i think ) red food colouring.

Made great wine & was a good expectorant if you were a bit phlemy :euw:

    Hey Victoria,

Just googled about 20 pages but the only thing that came close was this site,

    http://www.seewoo.com/x/by_category.html?catid=78

But the packet doesn't look right, the ones I used to buy were a bright red.

Will have to go to Gerrard street in London, buy the lot & start my own distribution network.
