It seems that neither temperature nor latitude determines when they spawn as you can't get much further south and milder than here. So I guess it is really just when they're ready. :D [IMG]

For the last 3 or 4 years when we have been out and about with the children,we have gone on frogspawn hunts, but never found any in the woods, etc. But when we have visited gardens, their ornamental ponds are full of spawn/ tadpoles/froglets..... about 4 years ago we went to Helligan in Cornwall in August, one of the ponds there had a sign as you went in to look where you step - the boys were horrified and spent the next hour or so moving all the baby froglets to safety!!!! You sound like you have plenty of frogs in your garden - many more than me (one!!), and it can take some time before they will spawn , so don't give up..... another thought if you don't know anyone with a pond, is go to your local allotments - there are usually ponds there, and ask someone if you can have some...... Their were frogs here before i had a pond...i have one of those old stone sinks that i use as a planter and they love hiding under that...when we moved in here their used to ba an old car pit and it had water in it with railway sleepers over and you would walk past it and see a little green hand crawling out..it used to be creepy..i filled it in and they were still hanging around...i have frogs by my front door as i have a lot of dense planting their and its relatively cool and if you weed on their they jump away...the only place i dont like them is in the greenhouse...not keen on frogs leaping around in their...

    Wildflower

Was looking at a wildlife site this afternoon, and they suggested you get in touch with your local wildlife trust if you want some frogspawn.... but if you have that many frogs in your garden, then they are probably laying some spawn in a sectret place you haven' yet found!!!
    ;)

six more clumps of spawn, now in a separate container with original pond water so I can keep an eye on them, and help them all "make the grade". [IMG]
