    Actually, it would work, but he'd never be able to play A1 as it would pick up A2.
    His problem would be selecting the last record in the carousel as the gripper arm would pick up the "empty space" between the last and first record, attempt to put it on the turntable and the pick-up arm would set down on a non existant record and just bump along on the stylus "ouch!"
    Jukeboxes are a wonderful feat of mechanical and electrical engineering, but they aren't that bright.

    I got home from golf this afternoon, to find our washing machine man had been and fixed the machine. Can't ask for more than that, can you?
