    Hi Everyone,
Thought you might like to see how much my fruitless nectarine flowers. If only I can get it to produce normal fruit this year. Thanks for everything.

Hi greybelle, your fruit tree is such a beautiful display of flowers...but that itself could be the reason why the fruits are small...because all the energies went in the flowers.

I doubt you can rectify the situation now, but for next season you can trim a lot of the branches. I assume that the temperature is sufficient, since the cold could be another reason why nothing is happening with the fruits.

PS when you say: it started as a little twig, is that from seed? (because that could be reason no. 3)

      Thanks Miraflores.
I purchased this nectarine as a 30cm twig with roots. It came with a similar sized peach tree that flowered and produced fruit after 2 years and then, sadly, was killed off by frost. The nectarine has grown large as its in a sheltered place and gets sun all day long. I'm hoping a regular feeding will do the trick this year. The flower and red leaf display is magnificent all by itself.

      Red leaf display??????
When is it showing red leaves?
Sounds like peach leaf curl could be the problem.

Never heard of a peach tree being killed by frost in the UK.

The tree looks really nice, but just wondering if it is actually a fruiting nectarine, the flowers just look to dense, I'm wondering if it is actually an ornamental prunus.

The tree has red leaves in spring that look like the red leaved peach tree called Crimson Bonfire (see picture). For all I know it could easily be this peach and not a nectarine.
It is NOT a disease and definitely not peach leaf curl. I actually do know what that looks like. After flowering the leaves turn green through the summer.
The peach tree died after a severe winter frost and snow 25 years ago so I assumed it was the weather. This far on it doesn't matter. It was just a passing comment and nothing to do with the nectarine per se.
The nectarine arrived with other fruit trees (including the now long dead peach) and was labelled as, and ordered as, a nectarine.
I live in an avenue lined with ornamental prunus trees giving a wonderful display every spring but the flowers are not the same.
So, basically this still remains mystery and we shall see what this year brings.
Thank you for all your comments.

      Hi Everyone,
Thought I would send you a few photos of my nectarine tree.
The first is of the tree itself (in front of the greenhouse) and you can see that many of the leaves have turned green. I've had to renew the fence and have erected the greenhouse since the last post.
The second photo is of the growing fruit. The bigger shrivelled one is from last year and the small one is his year's growth.
Am busy feeding it so thanks for all the help.

      Hi Pete,
Thanks for the thought. I'd already looked at the link you gave and there seems to be quite a lot of diversity. The small crab apple fruit all seem to have the indentation where the calyx has been like apples but my " tiny nectarines" don't have this. Their end is more pointed like a plum would be. The leaves and bark also look different. I seem to remember this plant came as a Lord Napier Nectarine. Anyway, whilst waiting for fruit of some kind to manifest (hopefully) I will put it on the plant identification forum with better photos.

I was going by picture two.
I would not expect a nectarine to have such a long stalk.

Not sure which pics are yours and which are off the internet in your last post?
