The difference is in the length of the tube......

F. Boliviana Alba is two and a half inches.

F. Boliviana Luxurians Alba is over three inches.

F. Boliviana is all red.

WOWIE....... I think that is the most expensive Fuchsia plug plant I've ever seen in my life, who is the seller?

I've got 85 different varieties/cultivars/species including a couple of rarities and I've never paid more than about £2-50 ish.

Other Fellow Fuchsias is a good online site, I think their new catalogue comes out in January. This year their pants were £2-10.

All you really need us two cuttings early in the year as then you use the tips you pinch out to provide more. Two cuttings growing from January/February would easily give you around ten more.

Have you got one you can take cuttings off ? If not and you can't get any cheaper let me know after Christmas and I'll strike you some.

Thanks Freddy....when is the best time to take Fuchsia cutting? I only have maybe
5 plants to take cutting from (but can easily get more), I was going to over winter
them in the greenhouse and maybe take cuttings in January (its a heated greenhouse)

If it were me, I'd be looking to let the plants go dormant over winter, keeping them cold, but frost free. Then, I would look to start them up (by adding heat and a bit of moisture) around February (?) I think it's important that once the the cuttings are rooted, that they are only potted on in stages to encourage root growth. Plenty of light, but not too much (if any) direct sunlight, at least in the early stages. Misting also helps. I am of course no expert, it's just what I would do.

 

I think Freddys advice is good, I know of a few people who have bought from Babyplants and they have a good reputation. The only reason I don't buy from them is that I only have a mobile phone and you really need a computer to negotiate their ordering system.

I've just had a look at Vernons site and all i can think of saying us that they remind me of a bunch of con artists.

Just to change the plant subject a little bit I looked at their Narcissi/Daffodils. I can get 25 King Alfred ( the normal big standard yellow daff you see everywhere and are bought as cut flowers by the million ) for £1.99... They're selling them at 10 for £9.99.
The miniature common one Tête a Tête, I can get 25 for £1, they're doing them at 25 for £9.99.

I don't mind paying extra for anything that is better quality, rarer or older ( I collect Royal Worcester and old glass ), but...... a bulb or a cutting is just that, there's nothing special about where it comes from ( barring specialities from overseas etc.) .
