FUCHSIA'S - 2015

I agree with everything Freddy says, but, there is no right or wrong way/time of doing cuttings.

I like to start in September as these would then provide nice little plants just to keep ticking over, in green leaf which i then keep in my unheated bedroom.
Then, you can use the "tip pinches " off these as cuttings in February /March which would be fine in your heated greenhouse.

Then you can let the mother plants go dormant without running the risks of having no reserves.

I would be wary of keeping Fuchsias in a heated greenhouse over winter as the light levels would probably be too low and you'd end up with a lot of spindly pale growth. ( Unless of course you have special lighting you can have on a timer. )

I start my main cutting period around Christmas as they then root and grow as the daylight grows longer.

Added 2 more to my collection today (to take cuttings from later)
each plant was £1.50 each

The one on the left is called Lambada and the other is called Dark Eyes
which is a trailing variety, hopefully good for cuttings next year

I'm glad that someone else has decided to take my favourite plant seriously and not treat it as a throwaway bedding plant.

There is no need to thank me as all I'm doing is what we're all doing..... helping each other with whatever our specialist knowledge is.

I normally don't switch on the heating (its just a 1kw propane heater) till about
February and this is normally to wake up the Dahlias to take cuttings from.

I also have a conservatory which is heated but we tend not to use it during the
winter months as even with the central heating radiator in there, it gets quite cold at
about 10.c during the night but this might be ideal to over winter them?

I'll put up a more detailed post about overwintering around the end if September beginning October.

But just as a snippet, the greenhouse should be fine to keep dormant plants in and, that's about the right time to wake them up aswell. If it works for your Dahlias it will work for Fuchsias also as they come from the same part of the world originally, but also have the added bonus that the named Fuchsias you have are more than likely to have some genes in them from F. Magellanica which is a hardy species.

The conservatory..... Could you clarify the temperature please. Do you mean it's kept at 10 deg OR that it'd higher during the day and drops down to 10 deg at night.
