No Lol, I know there in baskets, I remember the pics, your " Cecile " has been stunning.

It's mine that are in half baskets that have been rubbish up until now, because I don't live with them I haven't been able to keep on top of watering and shading them.

They've started to flower their socks off now the temperatures dropped a little. I was gonna start taking cuttings but I think I'm gonna gave to wait another month yet.

Dear all, I've a couple of hardy fuchsias I've got in pots at the moment. I was going to plant before the winter as I believe they probably wouldn't survive in the plastic pots. Is there a good time to do this and should I trim them back first? They are a 'Display' and a 'Dollar Princess'. IMG_6861.jpg

Dollar Princess is hardy, don`t know the other, have you somewhere to overwinter, a bad winter forecast, then plant out next Spring so they have a good root system the next winter.

Thanks @pamsdish. The only overwintering options I have are a hut and garage which receive no light, alternatively one of those plastic greenhouse things but I'm not sure how useful they are.

            Hi Patrick,

I wouldn't advise you to plant them out now. Hardy Fuchsias should be planted out by roughly the end of June/beginning of July if they are to stand a chance on their own, the reason being, they send down a deep tap root and there's no way they've got time for that now.

If your garage is frost free then that would be ideal. They don't want to be kept at anymore than about 3 deg unless you can provide extra light for them.

If you hang on a few weeks I'll be putting up a post ( with diagrams ) about how to overwinter them, pruning back and everything else.

It's still a little early to be talking about overwintering as most Fuchsias will just be reaching their prime now as our sept/oct weather us the closest they get to their own natural environment.

PS.... Both Dollar Princess and Display are hardy down to around -10 deg once established.

Thanks Anthony, I'll keep an eye out for the posts. They are both looking well just now, the Dollar Princess has had a second wind with loads of new flowers. The display not so much, it seems to have lots more leaves growing instead.
I think for those shelves in the picture next year I'll try a few of the non-hardy annual type fuchsias, and play more with colours. There have been a whole host on this thread I would love to try.

                ARGHHHHHH

One of my pet hates.... Please don't call Fuchsias annuals..... Thanks

Sorry for that, rant over :)

That's a good idea as you could put a couple of upright ones and a couple of trailers on the top and then put trailers on the other shelves.

If you see any you like in the thread, let me know and I'll see if I can send you any cuttings :)

This is the best I've grown this one as in a more sunnier situation the colours don't come as good.

Here's something for you @Anthony Rogers. :) Sorry about the picture quality. I took these shots, supposedly of a Fuschia while I was on holiday. Any ideas please.

                        Hi Sheal,
                        Sorry I don't think it's a Fuchsia. I reckon it's a Begonia. I can't really see the leaves but it looks like a " Cane Begonia " . Check out B. Corallina.

Interesting, as the leaves look Fuchsia 'like', whereas the stems look that from a Begonia.
                          I don't think it's a Fuchsia though

On second thoughts, having looked at it again, the leaves aren't quite right for a Fuchsia
                            I think Anthony is right

I though it was a Begonia but the label said it was a Fuschia, I wish I'd taken more notice of it now! :doh:The leaves were definitely Fuschia looking and nothing like a Begonia.

I took the picture at a 'gardens' in Scotland. I wonder if it's worth trying to contact them and find out what it is?
