00000000000000000000000000015810I've finished with all that now for the summer flowering ones except for the standards and I've decided I'm gonna leave them to it for this year.

I have still got the winter ones to do. " Space Shuttle " has only just finished flowering so I've got to start on those now :)

I bought 5 Morrisons fuschias a few months ago, and due to a lack of pots, I planted 3 in one medium pot, and 2 in another. Now they're getting quite big and I'm now wondering about splitting them up. Will this be an easy task to do, do you think? Or will the roots be so entwined I shouldn't even consider it?

Found this Fuchsia 2 maybe 3 years ago, cast aside in the local hedge, flowering bravely, think it might be Dark Eyes, I brought it home and potted it on, look at it now, found the pot also cast aside, someone had planted a buddleia in it which had grown, as they do, into a tree, they had snapped the root off, but couldn`t get it out of the drainage hole, I cut it levelish underneath with my pruning saw, chopped gently at the rest and out it popped, 5 mins max and a little effort. Hi Ben,

It's hard to say without seeing a) How big they are and B) How big the pots are.

As long as they're kept fairly wet for about a week they should transplant easy enough.

To give you an example, the other day I moved a large glazed pot ( around 24" high and wide) and found that one of the three " Genii " shrubs in it had sent out an 18" long tap root down into the gravel beneath it ( they're about four years old ).Well I had to remove them ( that was the reason for moving the pot in the first place ) and I could only save two of them. So after un-entangling them I replanted the two good ones and left them in their new pots in a washing up bowl each with a watering can full of water in a shady spot.

Well, after sulking for a couple of days they're both looking as though nothing had happened to them.

Ps... I had to throw the one away as the main tap root was damaged beyond repair. It looked like a massive long parsnip.

I'll get photos up this weekend and you can tell me if it's too late to separate them. I think it'll be OK but I wanted to check before I kill them all accidentally, or something!
