I have grown Dorothy Hanley but never planted it in the ground. I did last year but not sure if it has survived the winter.

Winston Churchill - though very similar / just a bit paler to Voodoo.

Label lost, though a rich coloured bloom -
Kind of a cone shaped bud 50mm long,
      - any ideas of its name ?

        Hi All,

Have grown Celia Smedley as a 3ft high standard and its very popular with the neighbours who all want one.

Have taken some more cutting and will be training them up as a single 3ft stem, but it can take many months to get them that high.

Wondered if there are any 'tricks' to getting them to grow that much faster in these summer months, like some bottom heat during the night ?
Normally kept in a shaded greenhouse and fed with Chempack no2 at half strength every watering.

Hi Ricky, you should never try to force a Fuchsia to grow quicker. A whip to be used as a standard should be grown gradually and steadily over a period of around 18 months ( including winter ), otherwise you will end up with a weak stem and spindly growth.

Do the sepals go right back to the pedicel ? Also, is it quite a large flower and a strong upright, rather stiff growing bush ?
If so I would say it's probably " Royal Velvet ", an old cultivar from 1962.

                Hi,

Thats how I have grown the existing standards, keeping them going overwinter on a heated bench at around 8c minimum.
Thought it might be possible to force them a bit, but take your point , thanks.

That picture was the first bud to open and the leaves were preventing the sepals from opening properly but its does seem more open today, but there are 2 more buds hanging clear of the leaves so will see how far they open.

It is a bush but I have not nipped it out so the stems are quiet long.

Both the corollas and sepals are such an intense and even colour, they are just perfect....

Will post a new pic of the whole plant and the fully opened flower in a couple of days.

Still want to know who has been in the greenhouse and messed with the labels ..:dunno:

Seems there are a few varieties that vary in their height specifications

I got some Pink Fizz last spring which everywhere state they grow to 1.5m, yet mine are still at 40cm and do not seem to be moving any higher ?
Someone else on the web with the same plants was also reporting the same thing.

As there are so many similar varieties perhaps some get mixed up by the growers etc :what:

You will have to post some pics of how tall yours grows to by the autumn.:)
