I am suprised the accident has NOT been reported, as there would not be much left of the taxi
I had the misfortune of hitting a roe deer never mind a horse and it almost wrote off the car, very expensive repairs

Still you have done your bit contacting the Police and MP not much more you can do is there

There was a documentary on TV recently from down your way, where they were tethering horses on common ground and even in gardens
The owners were the untouchables (can we say Gypsies on here) the law were a joke
"Now you know you can not do this John/Bill" OK Guv, and that is as far as it went
They then tethered the horse ten yards further up

There can't have been much speed involved. The taxi looked the right shape afterwards, but the engine, which was still running, was making that distinct gurgling sound that happens after a frontal wallop.

I don't know if the horse was hit, or if it was a near miss and the horse threw the rider, but there was a hell of a bang and the rider was hurt and the horse legged it and an apparent friend of the chav started shouting at the taxi driver, until another neighbour, a feisty woman, came out and kicked off, correctly pointing out, if you waited for the occasional word among the obscenities, that it was the chav's fault, and ..... poor ..... horse, and always galloping along like .... ..... ..... idiots etc.

This is true. I think most horse riders know that they have the right of way in most situations too. However what they so often overlook is that having the right of way does not invalidated all the other rules of the road such as exercising due care and attention, riding on the left hand side of the road at a speed that is suitable given the capabilities of the vehicle, the driver/rider, and the local conditions etc.

The thing is too, its easy to see how a horse or rider can be hurt in these situations, but it is often overlooked that more than a few car drivers have been killed in collisions with large animals even at relatively low speed, when the animal rolls over the car bonnet, comes through the windscreen, and crushes the driver to death.

Hopefully, the Police would have sent a patrol to try and locate the horse. A potentially injured horse wandering around isn't a pleasant thought.

oh how awful!!! I hope they find the horse and its ok. Poor taxi driver and poor Clueless! Thankfully I have never come across an irresponsible horse rider. Lots of people are getting rid of horses round here cos they "can't afford" to keep them & all the animal sacntuaries seem to be full to bursting.
I hope that Chav is found and taught a lesson.........

We get it all the time, and most of them will hide they horses when it's dark, no lights no light clothes no high vis jackets (Human or on horse) When i had a word with one of them, lots of bad words and o well the horse is insured

If i didn't slow down for them, i'm the one in the wrong :frown:
But there are 1/2 horse rider that are ok and do things right

Clueless if the horse and rider came from a local stables that you know of, then perhaps you should go and speak to them.

Unfortunately Sheal the rider will have had nothing to do with anything quite so organised and reputable as that. He'll have came from the council estate up the road, and his horse will be one of those that are illegally tethered in area.
