Well it happened. I knew it would, but I was hoping to get the play area done first.

After tea this evening, my little son and I went out with our spades to crack on with the digging work. This went on for about 10 minutes before my son put his spade down and went back into the house. I just figured toddlers don't have a very long attention span, and he'd got bored and gone in to play with his toys.

A couple of minutes later he was back. He was dragging his trike along. I figured he was going to ride his trike around the the path near the back door, but no, he had other ideas. He dragged his trike right across the garden and positioned it at the top of the half finished mound, got on it, chuckled for a second or two, and was away.

I was a bit worried because the landing area is still lumpy, roughly dug ground, but I figured it should be soft enough to stop him injuring himself. Luckily I was right. He descended the unfinished mound into the roughly dug patch that will soon be his play area several times. He enjoy this so much that he really didn't want to go in for his supper when bed time was approaching.

This has spurred me on. After he'd gone to bed, I was back out there grafting away, trying to make some swift progress before tomorrow. I've got his landing area quite level now, and have dug in a lot of partially rotted compost, the result being ground that is fairly smooth and firm enough for his trike to go over, but still with enough free play in it to hopefully stop him from busting himself when it goes a bit wrong.

He'll be out there again tomorrow Clueless. He's probably checking the progress with his trike to see if it works. :)

Have you thought of tying a Rake to the back?.
Make use of his energy. It might also slow him down a bit.
