DMM, not all salvias are the same by any means :)

They are so varied and different.
Some are tender, some like damp, some like sunshine, some are hardy, some are shrubby, some are herbaceous, some are.....well, you get the picture.

The hardy Caradonna is easy and reliable. The shrubby microphyllas ....and there are lots of varieties now.....are hardy and even evergreen.

Here I grow lots of salvias but situations are chosen with care and with respect to their needs.

I suggest you try the microphyllas....Hot Lips for example. Can make a large bush or pruned back like a fuchsia to have a compact plant. And it flowers forever.....sometimes red flowers, sometimes white and sometimes red and white flowers :)

Digging up this thread again as I'm going to spray mine with Killermite which contains 18g/L of Abamectin.
      I'll keep you all updated.

Ok,I was under the impression that abermectin was banned in the UK for use on plants.
It will work, that's why they banned it.

Yes I thought so too. I was looking at importing some from Italy then I found this for Hydroponic use.
I also read that it was natural and approved for organic use in some countries.

It was part of an insecticide that was called, plant rescue by Westland, a few years ago, it worked wonders on RSM. Then suddenly it didn't contain it anymore and the read up changed from Kills RSM to controls RSM, basically meaning it didn't kill them any more.
It was still available in pet and animal sprays for a while, not sure if it still is, often it says Ivermectin.

                  Hi @Pushkin ,

Are you spraying it onto infected plants or as a preventative ?

Fuchsias are one of my favourite plants and every spring I make a mistake of getting a couple of plants from morrisons hoping gall mites don't find them. Nope, fuschias barely manage to start flowering, and here they are... All fuschia bushes in Portsmouth seem affected.
I'm sceptic on usung abamectin outside. Even indoors you need at least 3 treatments to eradicate mites completely, so that newly hatched get their dose. Outside mites will come back and become resistant. Plus weren't they living inside those galls where miticide won't get anyway?

I found abermectin to be pretty effective, more effective than anything else I tried, but that was on RSM not gall mites.
I believe it is systemic so the sap becomes poisonous to the mite, as with all insecticides there is always the chance that the pests will become resistant.
I found one spraying was effective for a reasonable amount of time the big problem is with reinfection if you don't spray all your plants at the same time.
You could try Nurelle, it's worked for me this year, but expensive.

I've sprayed all my fuchsias infected or not.
I've found my David plant is very resistant to it being Microphylla. My Magellenicas get it bad.

The product I have says it's systemic so hopefully it will kill them all.
I'll do another spray at 0.5ml/L in ten days time.

Is a 10 day interval the suggested?

I was under the impression that it was a kind of one spray per season ,but could be wrong.
Usually these days they give how many sprays per season is acceptable.

Fortunately I've never actually seen this gall but I have read about it. I have a number of different Fuchsia varieties on our balcony so it would be terrible to see them become infected, die & not to be able to replace them! :frown::sad:

It actually says 7 days later for the second spray but I'm going for 10 days with half the maximum dosage.
