      There are times I hate Wickes! Never have what you want in stock. I should have learned by now I suppose.

        Some DIY places are a nightmare. I learned a long time ago that they don't always carry stock. It's a pain in the bum to get there and come away empty handed when you've made a journey for a specific thing.

        Cut-off saw set at 45 degrees makes the job a tad easier, but have to agree with you, mitering so many pieces is not fun.

        Sounds like some of the places here.
        Found a small independent DIY place down the road from me, they always seem to have what I need, phone the guy up, tell him what I want and when I pick up about an hour later it's all ready.
        They are a bit more expensive than the big retailers but after all the faffing of getting there, then not finding what is needed, I just gave up and rather pay a bit more and at least I'm supporting the small guy.

          I'm looking forward to getting stuck into it tomorrow having picked everything up today. I'll have a few sore fingers but when it's done it should look the business :)

          Still nedd to take the old paint of the lintel too so hopefully time for that as well.

          @Loofah

          Have you decided on the finish/coating for the wood yet?

          Not yet. There's a bundle of choice but I tried some dark creocote on an offcut and it barely took (no colouring), probably down to being new and treated timber. That said, as it's treated, I'll probably go for a simple stain and worry about an additional protective coating after that.

          Or I'll change my mind completely and paint it all lol

          @Loofah

          Yep, you will find that the treated wood is not very porous thus not many stains and other treatments will stick to it.
          Do you get the "Woodoc" range of wood treatments over there?
          They make some especially for treated wood and is UV stabilized.
          Have a look round at what is available as it would be a pity to cover all that wood with paint.

          Yes, I'm hating the idea of painting it too! Haven't seen Woodoc but will have a look about, thanks. There must be something that will do it...

          A mix of excellent joints and 'not so goods'. I'm not showing you those :chicken:

            So true that, being a glazier must be the most unrewarding job ever.
            The finished product looks the same as before anything was done. :snork:

            Wow, that is a 100% hit rate. :smile:

            Those joints look pretty good @Loofah

            There are two shockers though Dave lol

            Oh, it was one thumb, hit twice. Not sure if that's better or worse.

            There is something deeply satisfying in going to a glass merchant and getting basic panes of glass and then using them in wooden windows. I had a great day :)

              What about a colour varnish Loofah, they are available now in satin and matt finishes. I had a solid oak house number plate made a few years ago that was stained by the maker. The colour ran and stained my house wall so I sanded it down and used the varnish, perfect! It's still looking good. :)

              Nothing that a bit of wood filler won't fix. :smile:

              :biggrin:

              It's the putty that I hate.

              Do you have a make and name? I've bought some ducksback from cuprinol and going to try it on an offcut but if that's rubbish then I'll need another option.

              The smell reminds me of my dad when I was young, he'd often go puttying lol I cheated and found a tube like you would use a sealant or filler for a gun. SO easy and mess free. Sort of.
