Have stripped the paint, sorry the TEN layers of paint off the lintel... Also sealed above the window.

I've painted an offcut with the ducksback (forest oak i think) and am waiting for it to dry... not too sure at the moment as it looks a bit naff.

Number of girly sized splinters = 0
Number of man size 'oh my god that hurts, how did that not take my arm off?!' splinters = 1

I think it's Ronseal, I'll check tomorrow. It's in the shed and it's dark out there!

It will need two or three coats to bring the colour out and the one I use dries in twenty minutes. :)

      Here you are @Loofah .....

Varnish goes a long way, so you won't need a huge tin. It coats differently to stain too, which is why I suggested more than one coat to bring out the colour. It will also look different on lighter or darker woods but you can get round that by using more coats on a lighter wood, or less on darker wood.

This can I used for interior and exterior with no problems, whether Ronseal makes an exterior one I don't know.

Thanks for that Sheal, much appreciated. I've used the ducksback for now and it doesn't look too bad - the pic doesn't really have the detail to reflect this though! I'm very much looking forward to extra compost arriving and some plants to break up the bottom a bit

I still need a clear coating for the window so will have a look at the Ronseal stuff:)

That looks good Loofah! It blends well with the colour of the brickwork. :dbgrtmb:

It's had a second coat now so depth of colour is better. This ducksback stuff is pretty good - shows all the textures of the wood through it. A clear coating on the window should give that a bit extra 'richness' too.

Dave, can't believe it took you so long lol I wired in a few more lights internally so usable all night long now. Still not turning it into a lodging space. Yet. Storage first but the more time I spend in it, the more I like it so you never know. Opening up the side wall with bi-fold doors onto the garden perhaps...

Now you're talking, and inside something like this:

Plus you have to have one of these in there:

And of course most importantly, one (or more) of these: :heehee:

                Thanks Al n, much appreciated.

Won't post another pic until a bit more 'finished'. I've done the shelving inside now and made a workbench of sorts; this is more for aiding storage than anything else. The garage is looking so clear now, it almost brought Mrs L to tears lol

I've scrubbed and sanded the window frame as it had been in storage for ages and had those little white dots you get all over (mould of some sort??). I'll treat it next with teak oil and then that should be the garage bit done completely.

Next I need to choose some evergreen shade loving shrubs and plant up the border.
