As a retired decorator, I would not recommend Linseed Oil as it may well stain clothing. Linseed oil was used on exterior Oak joinery to preserve against the weather (which it does extremely well and much better than varnish). Any treatment which is not hard setting will need careful drying off or your visitors will be most upset.

is it possible to buy a teak oil with a red stain in it? Our furniture has been bleached to a grey by the sun, and I'd like to put the colour back.

Thanks Capney and Larkshall - I knew there had to be a reason that they didn't stock it in the same section as furniture sealants!
Youngdaisydee - that looks like a very comfortable bench, I do like the curve in the seat and the wood finish has turned out lovely.
Good to hear that the Ronseal has stood up and done it's job in the recent weather.
Will Ting: Won't the oil itself help recolour the wood? I don't think you need to add colour to it, as the oil itself should bring out the colour shouldn't it?

Yes. you can get coloured oil treatment.
The Ronseal I used on mine seat was light oak.
I have now given it two coats and after the last heavy shower sometime last night the water is pooling on the wood which to me means its sealed OK
Picture will show you what I mean

I used Linseed oil on my table and it was all sticky and the table went black in the winter so I had to rub it down. I was advised to used Danish oil on it and give it 5 coats. It was hard work but it came up lovely. I have also used decking oil on my swing seat and that came up nice too.

Your seat looks lovely Robert you've done a good job there and does the cat approve?

Must admit to never seeing garden furniture like you have there before.
So much we see of the bench / table type are so unstable and can tip easy.
    But yours looks the business

Yeah I hadn't seen anything like it before until i spotted one in Haskin's garden centre 2 years ago for £450 :roll:but i couldn't afford that so i found one for about half that price online and bought it with our wedding money. I've seen some others round with squarer seats and the pub up the road has got several so I know where to go for spares :D:hehe: It's great for parties :) and doesn't blow round the garden in the winter lol
