      here is a good site to get you going and help you plan with some unusual plants:

      Exotic Gardening in UK - Hardy Exotics Nursery

      for starters, stick to plants that are hardy in zone 7 (this is UK zone 7 and not the normal zones that we are used to ... see their uk hardiness zone map)...

          We do spend a lot of time in the garden, but a large part of that is just enjoying being outside. It would be possible to grow many of the plants with a lot less time, and to stick purely to the fully hardy ones and still have a great garden.

          We are currently building a Koi pond, which is taking huge amounts of time, so much of the garden is having to look after itself this year.
