Going by a discussion we've just had in the office, it would seem that BT (and all services linked to BT) have been having increasing DNS server issues - so, if your internet provider is BT, Sky, PlusNet, Vodafone (fixed line only) or a plethora of others, it is quite likely that you are having issues because of this and not GC itself.

If you are accessing from Virgin, O2, Hutchison Telecom (3) and some others, you won't be seeing any issue.

 

@Jiffy We're on BT and our emails have been down all day. I tried phoning their tech department and got a message that they are very busy and I would have a twenty minute wait. After hanging on for an hour my cordless phone ran out of battery

I think we are entitled to compensation if it is down for two days. If it lasts that long I shall chase them for compensation.

 

We are on Virgin and all OK, so that could well be the answer.

It was the other way round a couple of months ago, people on Virgin and in the Surrey area were all suffering, they were actually blocking the GC site for a few days. I could access it fine on my phone though, obviously that was another service provider, not Virgin.

 

BT email down as outage leaves customers without access

"Thousands of customers are reportedly unable to access BT email services due to an ongoing outage."

 

I've been on to their automated service which, more or less, is saying they are working on the problem and apologise to those affected. Doesn't give any idea of when it will be resolved.

 

My email is working and, so far, everything else seems OK
