    @pete here you can see I've asked my PC to 'ping' the server at GC, using the website address... my DNS server has looked it up and found that the IP address for GC is 172.67.130.251 and it then uses that number to communicate with the GV server:

      How would one change DNS, is it easy or very hard?

        I've just done speed tests on three different sites.

        Ping:- 8, 11, 25
        Download:- 16, 17, 16
        Upload:- 2.8, 1, 3.2

        I have no idea what I'm doing :noidea: :heehee:

        I'm with BT and not having anywhere near as much trouble as the other day. I restarted our computers, unplugged and then plugged back in all external drives and rebooted the Hub. It certainly did improve after that. Most of the time it seems back to normal and working immediately but very occasionally is still taking a few seconds (up to about 11 seconds) to either load a post or, more frequently a smilie.

        Just done a speed test
        ping=42
        down load= 4.35
        upload=0.23

        Could the upload speed be the problem?

              We're at the end of the line so we only get the speeds that no one else wants :heehee:

                We're better than you as we are a few hundred yards from the end of the line - on the right side of it :roflol:

                Our download and especially upload is usual 1 or sometimes 2. Apparently that is all we can expect as the fibre box is over a mile away in the village. It has always been sufficient for our needs.

                A private company has recently run a fibre cable along the telegraph poles outside and are offering full fibre at a rather enhanced price. We don't need it as we don't stream anything. :noidea:

                Our BT line seems to have sorted itself out now :fingers crossed: and everything back to normal.

                Over the past month Openreach has been installing full fibre on the estate. They've been up our road, heads down the hatches and pulling very long cables up the road. I think they have finished now, but we don't need anything faster than our 1 - 3 as we don't stream anything and I don't want to pay for it either. Happy as we are.
