I like GW as gentle calm tv but it’s now a bit wishy washy there’s not a lot of actual advice now & it’s often an advert for businesses/designers and most annoying is when Monty says here’s some such and such I planted the seeds a month or two months ago, that’s too late for viewers why don’t they do an earlier program that shows what seeds are being sown so when the actual GW starts in March we can join in!

Well I really enjoyed this weeks GW, particularly the features showing the Scottish doctor's garden and East Lambrook.

I watch it usually on a Sunday evening it’s relaxing and there are occasional nuggets of useful information but I tend to fast forward quite a lot of it I don’t want to see visits to other gardens and it’s a bit too dog oriented for my taste but it’s soothing.

We often watch it on a Sunday too. When I was younger, my always mum recorded it for me and I would pick up the VHS tape when I visited them on Sunday. I used to watch it in the evening after the kids went to bed. It was a small treat at the end of the week.

It’s “more” - which is often cooking with garden produce, flower arranging and garden visits. The visit to Japan to see the blossom last year is a lovely episode and I think it’s available on iPlayer.

I ‘keep’ GW for a rainy afternoon - so I might watch later.

I enjoyed it, particularly the item on the front gardens in North London. The way that it was casually dropped into the conversation that there was one garden that didn't take part.
If ever there was an opportunity for someone to appear on national TV and get their front garden transformed...

I was intrigued to hear that Monty is going to do a "starting a garden from scratch" item next week. I hope it becomes a regular thing and doesn't just disappear after a month or so.

The visit to Lambrook Manor brought back some fond memories. I remember a year or so back reading that it was going on the market. Taking on a Grade 1 listed garden must be a challenge. I must read up on the rules in case my Euromillions ticket bears fruit.

Although I don't grow vegetables any more I found Sue Kent's visit to the garden in Wales interesting.

The doctor's garden in Edinburgh was beautiful, yet another who has put in a curved path and dug up the lawn. I love that style, but my OH gets very twitchy. He does love his lawn. That is my ultimate threat .

When you look at the range of knowledge, expertise and different interests on just this forum alone, it's going to be impossible to please all of the viewers all of the time. To be honest at this time of year I'm just happy to see sunny gardens and get inspiration .

Monty pulled the rhubarb and explained why you pull and never cut, also you force if every other year.

Rhubarb is bittersweet, as it too bitter for me, but I am so envious of all those who grow rhubarb - I would love the room grow it.

I wouldn't eat bought rhubarb products with it in I found it far to bitter. I started eating rhubarb after growing my own tastes better

Out of curiosity I watched the first episode of the second series of Alan Titchmarsh’s Gardening Club this evening. It was not dissimilar to the format of GW, with interesting content and well presented. Watching another episode will help me decide whether I’ll become a regular viewer. The ad breaks and jaunty music introducing each segment are holding me back. No friendly dogs or cats either .

I must admit I only really enjoy the actual gardening bits, particularly jobs for the weekend and I find the constant shots of dogs irritating I don’t dislike dogs but it’s a gardening programme. However I accept that I am in the minority and it’s a relaxing programme for a Sunday evening.

When you have been gardening for a long time all the programmes get a bit repetitive. My favourite is the Beechgrove Garden but I agree with those who liked Geoff Hamilton, he used to try new ideas and themes. I even remember Geoffrey Smith's progammes, which were really good. He went into topics in much more depth eg. a whole series on alpine gardening.
And why does no one ever grow any perennials from seed? its all expensive potted stuff.

Monty was growing perennials from seed in the last GW.
